Holosun lists the window at roughly 1.58 by 1.18 inches, far larger than a standard AEMS or a typical micro tube, so finding the reticle is easy even from awkward positions. The body is hard-anodized 7075-T6 aluminum, 3.15 by 1.95 by 2.5 inches, and Holosun lists 8.2 ounces for the optic plus 2.1 ounces for the mount. It mounts directly to Picatinny at a 1.41 inch central height. Several retailers instead list the 1.1 by 0.87 inch window of the standard AEMS and a 32 MOA circle, so confirm with Holosun if exact window size matters to you.
Green MRS Reticle
The 540nm green reticle can run as a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or the circle and dot together. The circle-dot is the choice for fast close work and for shotguns, where the large ring frames the target. The plain dot gives you precision at 100 yards and beyond. Green tends to read brighter to the eye in daylight than red, and many shooters with astigmatism find it cleaner.
Power and Solar Backup
Battery life is rated at up to 50,000 hours at setting 6. The cell slides out of a side tray, so the optic never has to come off the rifle. Holosun’s Solar Failsafe panel on top supplements the battery in good light, and Shake Awake turns the LED off when the rifle sits still. Brightness offers 8 day and 4 night vision settings, plus an automatic mode.
Why Enclosed Matters
The emitter sits inside a sealed housing with glass on both ends, so rain, mud and snow cannot block the LED. That makes the Ronin AEMS Max a strong choice for truck guns, hunting rifles that see foul weather, and defensive carbines that may be grabbed in any conditions. The only routine care is wiping the lenses.
Mount Height and Setup
At 1.41 inches, the mount sits at absolute co-witness height on most AR-15s, putting standard irons in the center of the window. Shooters who prefer a more upright head position often add a riser. Adjustments are 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of travel. Because the body is large, check clearance with a rear iron sight and any magnifier you plan to run.
What to Consider
The Max is heavier and bulkier than a micro dot, and on a lightweight AR you will feel the extra weight. It also costs more than the standard AEMS. If you mostly shoot from a bench, the larger window adds little. If you shoot fast, move a lot, or have trouble finding the dot in smaller sights, it is one of the most forgiving red dots available.
