Two Things The Old Title Did Not Tell You

The Holosun HS510C Green FDE sat in our catalogue as simply a green 510 open reflex, which left out the finish entirely. The barcode resolves to the flat dark earth version, so this one is FDE rather than black.

If you want the same optic in black, that is the standard HE510C and we stock it alongside this one. Everything else about the Holosun HS510C Green FDE is identical: same window, same reticle, same titanium hood, same mount. Only the finish differs, and we would rather you ordered the colour you actually wanted than discovered it on arrival.

Green And Tan Is A Considered Combination

Human daylight vision peaks almost exactly at 540nm, so the green reticle in the Holosun HS510C Green FDE reads brighter to your eye than a red one producing the same actual light. That matters more on a rifle than a pistol, because of where rifles get pointed.

A rifle wearing the Holosun HS510C Green FDE gets shot at brush, timber, dirt berms, tan steel and cover, which is exactly the family of warm mid tone backgrounds that swallow a red dot. Green holds its separation against all of them. The honest other half: against live grass, foliage and green painted steel, green is the colour that loses and red would serve you better. If your shooting is mostly the latter, say so and we will point you at the red version instead.

A Tall Window, On Purpose

The glass on the Holosun HS510C Green FDE is 0.91 by 1.26 inches, taller than it is wide, and that orientation is the right one for a long gun. A rifle is shot from a repeatable cheek weld, so the reticle is rarely lost sideways. It is lost vertically, when your head comes up high or drops low because the position is awkward or the shot is hurried.

Vertical window buys that back. Bring the gun up and the dot is already in the glass rather than somewhere above or below it, which is what makes a big reflex sight feel fast in a way no specification sheet explains.

Titanium Hood And An MAO Finish

An open reflex sight like the Holosun HS510C Green FDE stands its lens up in the air with nothing in front of it, and on a rifle that gets slung, set down on tailgates and pushed through doorways the lens is the vulnerable part. The Holosun HS510C Green FDE puts a titanium protective hood over it to take the hit instead.

The Holosun HS510C Green FDE aluminum body is finished in MAO, micro arc oxidation, rather than ordinary anodising. MAO grows a harder and more corrosion resistant layer, which is what belongs on a housing expected to be struck. It is also why the flat dark earth finish holds up rather than wearing to bare metal at the corners.

Multi Reticle, Solar Failsafe, Half MOA Clicks

The Holosun HS510C Green FDE gives a 2 MOA dot alone, a 65 MOA circle alone, or the circle with the dot inside it, all from one emitter so switching never moves your point of impact. Close in the ring is what your eye catches instantly; at distance the dot is what you aim with, and the ring doubles as a rough ranging reference at a known sixty five MOA.

A solar panel harvests ambient light and keeps the sight running if the CR2032 dies or is removed. The cell is rated 50,000 hours at setting six, Shake Awake sleeps the optic when the rifle is still, and adjustments move 0.5 MOA per click across 50 MOA of travel each way, fine enough to actually zero rather than approximate. Ten daylight settings and two night vision settings.

Weight, Said Plainly

The Holosun HS510C Green FDE weighs 4.94 ounces and measures 3.3 by 1.68 by 1.78 inches. That is substantial for a red dot and it is the cost of the big window and the titanium hood. On an AR or a defensive shotgun it disappears. On a lightweight build where every ounce has been argued over it will not, and a smaller enclosed sight would serve you better. We would rather say that now than after it arrives.

Manufacturer specifications are published at Holosun. One caution if you read that page: its own specification table lists the housing colour as black, which contradicts the FDE designation in the part number, so we have described the finish from the part number and the product itself rather than repeat a line their table appears to have wrong.
