Description
The Holosun HE515GM-GR Solar Green Dot is a compact 20mm-class micro dot with a green Multi-Reticle System, a top-mounted solar panel and a quick-detach riser. At under four ounces it is a light, low-maintenance sight for AR-15 carbines, pistol caliber carbines and shotguns.
Holosun HE515GM-GR Solar Green Dot Overview
Holosun lists the body at 2.75 by 1.43 by 1.63 inches and 3.74 ounces, small enough that it barely changes how a carbine balances. The 0.78 inch round window is typical of the micro tube class, and the 540nm green LED is easy to see in daylight. The included QD lever mount clamps to any Picatinny rail and puts the dot at 1.63 inches. Adjustments are 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of travel for windage and elevation.
Solar Panel Plus Battery
The solar panel on top of the housing supplements the battery in good light and can keep the dot lit if the battery is low, which Holosun markets as Solar Failsafe. In automatic mode, the panel also helps the sight adjust brightness to the light around you. The primary power is still a coin cell in a side-loading tray, rated for 50,000 hours at setting 6. Shake Awake turns the LED off when the gun is still and on when it moves.
Three Reticles to Choose From
Press and hold to switch between a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or the circle and dot together. The circle-dot is the favorite for fast shooting at close range and for shotguns, where the 65 MOA ring approximates a pattern. The plain dot gives you the precision to shoot tight groups at 100 yards. The sight remembers your last reticle and brightness.
Mount Height and Co-Witness
The riser is built for a lower 1/3 co-witness with standard-height AR-15 iron sights. That keeps your irons visible in the bottom of the window as a backup without cluttering your sight picture. The QD lever lets you remove the optic for cleaning or transport and return it close to zero. On shotguns with low ribs and rimfires, check cheek weld before committing to this height.
Spec Notes
Holosun’s product page is not fully consistent for this model. Its specification table lists titanium, while its feature list and our distributor describe a 7075-T6 aluminum housing. We list aluminum here, because the price and weight match Holosun’s aluminum micro dots. Holosun also shows IPX8 in the table and IP68 elsewhere; either way it is rated for submersion.
Is the 515GM Right for You
For the price, the 515GM offers features that cost much more from legacy brands: solar backup, a three-reticle menu and a QD mount. What you give up is the long military track record of an Aimpoint Micro. For civilian carbines, hunting rifles and home-defense guns, it is a practical, long-running choice. If you want a titanium housing, look at the HE515GT instead.
Ordering and Transfer
When you order a firearm from MAG5 Firearms, we ship it to the licensed dealer you choose. Your dealer completes the ATF Form 4473 and the background check, and may charge a transfer fee. Local buyers can complete the transfer at our shop. Bring a valid ID, and check your state waiting period before you plan a hunt or a range trip.
