Description
The Holosun HE512T-RD Titanium Red Dot is a hooded, titanium-bodied rifle sight in the style of a holographic weapon sight, with a red Multi-Reticle System and solar backup. It gives AR-15 and shotgun owners the big, square window of an HWS-style optic with the battery life of a modern LED dot.
Holosun HE512T-RD Titanium Red Dot Overview
Holosun machines the HE512T from grade 5 titanium, so the protective hood and body shrug off knocks that would dent aluminum. The window measures 0.91 by 1.26 inches, giving a wide, open view with both eyes open. Holosun lists the body at 3.35 by 1.63 by 1.7 inches and 9.17 ounces. It clamps directly to a Picatinny rail, and windage and elevation adjust 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of travel.
Reticle Options
The 650nm red reticle can run as a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or the circle with the dot centered. That circle-dot is the same concept that made holographic sights popular: the ring is fast to find and the dot handles precision. Unlike a true holographic sight, the HE512T uses an LED reflex system, which is why it can run for years instead of hundreds of hours on one battery.
Battery and Solar
Battery life is rated at 50,000 hours at setting 6, and the battery is changed through a side tray without removing the optic. Holosun’s Solar Failsafe panel supplements power in good light and keeps the sight usable if the battery runs low. Shake Awake turns the LED off when the rifle is still and back on the moment it moves. There are 8 daylight and 4 night vision settings, plus automatic mode.
Mount Height
The integrated mount puts the dot at 1.41 inches, the height for an absolute co-witness with standard AR-15 iron sights. Your irons line up right through the center of the window. Shooters who prefer a more upright head position can add a riser. On shotguns with a rail, the low height often matches cheek weld better than taller micro-dot setups.
Why Titanium
Titanium is heavier than aluminum by volume but far tougher, and it does not corrode. That matters on a rifle that rides in a truck, gets dropped on a range bench, or sees duty use. The hood also protects the front lens from impact. If you want the same design in a lighter, cheaper package, the aluminum HS512C exists, but the titanium version is the one built for hard use.
Things to Know
At just over nine ounces, this is not a featherweight optic, and it sits further back on the rail than a micro dot. Holosun shares one set of angle photos across the HE512T reticle colors, so gallery images may show the green version of this identical titanium housing. This listing is the red reticle model.
