The Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot is the third generation 507C with a green emitter at 540nm. A 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, or both, on the RMR footprint with solar failsafe behind the battery and 50 MOA of adjustment travel. Part HE507C-X3-GR.

Green Is A Backgrounds Decision, Not A Fashion One

Human daylight vision peaks almost exactly at 540nm, so the green reticle in the Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot reads brighter to your eye than a red one producing the same actual light. That buys contrast without buying current draw.

Where it shows up is against the colours that swallow red: brick, rust, timber, brown clothing, dirt. The reverse is equally true and nobody selling optics likes to mention it. Against grass, foliage and green painted steel, green is the colour that loses and red would serve you better. So the question is not which is superior, it is what you point the gun at. We would rather you buy the right one than the newer one.

What The X3 Generation Changed On The Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot

Generation numbers rarely come with an explanation, so here is the comparison against the X2 from Holosun own published figures.

The window grew from 0.63 to 0.67 inches tall while staying 0.91 wide, so the Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot offers more vertical glass in the same footprint. The body changed from 1.15 by 1.15 inches to 1.31 by 1.1, taller and slimmer, and weight went from 1.5 to 1.55 ounces. The RMR footprint, the reticle set, the solar failsafe and the 50 MOA of adjustment travel all carried over unchanged, so an X2 and an X3 mount in the same holes.

Automatic Brightness, Which The X2 Green Did Not Have

This is the difference most worth knowing and it is not on any comparison chart. The X2 green 507C is manual brightness only. The Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot adds automatic brightness alongside the manual control.

Whether that is an upgrade depends on how you use the gun. Automatic reads a scene well and saves you thinking about it, which suits a defensive pistol where you will not have time to adjust. It can also be fooled by snow, a white wall, a headlight or a bright doorway with a dark room behind it, which is why the manual control and the lockout are still there. Having both is strictly better than having one.

The Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot Keeps Fifty MOA Of Travel

Adjustment range is 50 MOA in each direction, where several optics further down the Holosun line give you 30. It is a figure nobody advertises and the one that decides whether a sight can be zeroed on your particular pistol at all.

Slide cuts are not perfect and adapter plates stack tolerances on top of them. Put a short travel optic on a gun that already points slightly off and you can run out of adjustment before you run out of error. Fifty MOA of headroom on the Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot is insurance against exactly that, and it is why this is the safer buy when you are going through a plate rather than into a native cut.

Three Reticles And A Solar Panel

The Multi Reticle System on the Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot gives a 2 MOA dot alone, a 32 MOA circle alone, or the circle with the dot inside it, all from the same emitter so switching never moves your point of impact. Learn the draw with the ring while your presentation is forming, then drop to the bare dot, or leave the Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot on circle and dot as most owners eventually do.

The panel on top of the Holosun HE507C X3 Green Dot harvests ambient light and will run the sight alone if the CR1632 dies or is removed. The cell is rated 50,000 hours at setting six, Shake Awake sleeps the optic when the pistol is still, and the tray loads from the side so a battery change never disturbs the mounting screws or your zero. Ten daylight brightness settings and two night vision settings.
