Description
The Holosun HE407K-GD-X2 Gold Dot is a micro open-emitter pistol optic sized for slim carry guns, with a single 6 MOA dot in gold. Gold reads crisply for many shooters who see red as a blurry starburst, and the big 6 MOA dot is quick to find in a small window.
Holosun HE407K-GD-X2 Gold Dot Overview
The 407K X2 is about as small as a practical pistol optic gets: roughly 1.6 by 0.98 by 0.95 inches and about 1 ounce, with a 0.77 by 0.58 inch window. The housing is hard-anodized 7075 T6 aluminum rated for 5000G of vibration. Adjustments are 1 MOA per click with plus or minus 30 MOA of travel. Holosun’s website currently lists the green and red versions; this gold-dot version is sold through distributors under part number HE407K-GD-X2.
Why 6 MOA on a Carry Gun
A 6 MOA dot is the fastest single-dot size to find when drawing from concealment, and most defensive shooting happens inside 10 yards. In a small carry window that speed matters even more. At 25 yards the dot covers about an inch and a half, which is still fine for center-mass work. If you want precise groups at distance, a 2 MOA dot is the alternative.
Gold Reticle Advantages
Gold sits between red and green on the spectrum. Many people with astigmatism find gold renders as a rounder, sharper dot, and it contrasts well both indoors and outdoors. It is slightly less punchy than green in bright sun, but easier on the eyes over long practice sessions.
Battery and Shake Awake
The battery loads through a side tray, so you can replace it without removing the optic and losing zero. Holosun rates the 407K X2 family at 50,000 hours on setting 6, and Shake Awake turns the LED off when the pistol is still and back on as it moves. Brightness is manual, with 10 daylight and 2 night vision settings, memory and lockout.
Fitment
The optic mounts directly to the K footprint used by many slimline pistols and aftermarket plates, including plates for Glock 43X and 48 MOS slides. Holosun K-pattern plates are also available for HK and other models. Confirm your slide cut first, use thread locker and torque screws to the plate maker’s spec.
Open Emitter Notes
As an open-emitter sight, the LED is exposed to whatever falls into the gap between lens and slide. Pocket lint and sweat are the usual culprits on a carry gun, so check and clean the emitter regularly. If you carry in harsh weather, the enclosed EPS Carry is the more forgiving choice. One gallery image shows the green 407K X2, which shares this identical housing.
