Description
The Holosun HE407COMP-GR-6 Green Dot is a large-window, open-emitter pistol optic with a single 6 MOA green dot, built on the RMR mounting pattern. It is designed for fast shooting on full-size pistols and competition guns, where a big window and a big dot speed up every shot.
Holosun HE407COMP-GR-6 Green Dot Overview
Holosun lists a 1.1 by 0.87 inch window in a body measuring 1.8 by 1.3 by 1.3 inches and weighing 1.7 ounces. The housing is hard-anodized 7075 T6 aluminum, rated for 5000G of vibration so it holds up to slide-mounted recoil. Windage and elevation adjust 1 MOA per click with plus or minus 30 MOA of travel. Unlike the 507COMP, this model skips the multi-reticle menu and solar panel for a simpler, lower-cost setup.
Why a Single 6 MOA Dot
A 6 MOA dot is big enough to find instantly when the gun comes up, which matters in timed competition and defensive shooting alike. At 7 to 15 yards it covers very little of an IPSC or USPSA target. The trade-off is precision at distance, since at 25 yards the dot covers about an inch and a half. If you shoot bullseye or need tight groups at range, a 2 MOA dot or a multi-reticle optic is the better tool.
Green for Daylight Visibility
Green LEDs tend to stand out more than red against bright, sunlit backgrounds, which makes this a popular choice for outdoor matches. Many shooters with astigmatism also see a cleaner dot with green. Brightness has 8 daylight settings plus night vision settings, with memory and a lockout mode. Holosun lists 2 night vision settings in one place on its page and 4 in another.
Battery and Shake Awake
The battery loads through a side tray, so you never have to unmount the optic and re-zero. Holosun quotes battery life at up to 100,000 hours, and Shake Awake turns the LED off after a period of stillness and back on when the pistol moves. That combination means most owners replace the battery once a year as preventive maintenance rather than because it died.
Mounting
The optic uses the RMR footprint, which is the most widely supported pistol optic pattern. Many factory optic-ready pistols need a plate to accept it, so confirm your slide cut before buying. Use the correct screw length, thread locker and proper torque. Because the window is tall, plan on suppressor-height iron sights if you want a co-witness.
Open Emitter Considerations
As an open-emitter sight, the LED is exposed between the lens and the slide. Rain, snow or debris can sit on the emitter and block the dot. For competition and range work that is rarely a problem. For daily carry in bad weather, an enclosed optic such as the EPS or 509T is more forgiving. Holosun shares one set of angle photos across 407COMP colors.
