Description

The Holosun DRS-NV Night Vision Red Dot is a rifle sight that combines a conventional red dot with a built-in digital night vision camera and display. In daylight it works like any reflex sight; after dark, the same window shows a night vision image with your reticle overlaid, without adding a separate clip-on device.

Holosun DRS-NV Night Vision Red Dot Overview

Holosun part DRS-NV pairs a 650nm Multi-Reticle System with a 1920 by 1080 sensor feeding a 1024 by 768 OLED display. The 25mm F1.2 lens is rated down to 0.01 lux and covers a 7.2 by 5.3 degree field of view. The body is 7075-T6 aluminum, anodized black, and mounts directly to a Picatinny rail at a 1.72 inch center height. Holosun lists the body at 18.5 ounces plus 2.3 ounces for the mount, so this is a much heavier optic than a typical micro dot.

How the Night Mode Works

In night vision mode the camera captures the scene and shows it on the internal display, with the selected reticle overlaid at your zero. You can step through 1x, 2x, 4x and 8x zoom, which helps identify an animal or target at distance, but every step up costs image resolution. The sensor sees into the near-infrared, so an IR illuminator dramatically improves the picture on dark, moonless nights. Without supplemental light, expect a grainy image in very dark woods.

Daytime Red Dot Performance

In normal light the DRS-NV behaves like a large-window reflex sight. The window measures 1.25 by 0.98 inches, giving a wide view for fast target pickup. The MRS menu offers a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or the circle and dot together. Adjustments are 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of travel, so zeroing a carbine or a hog rifle is quick and precise.

Power and Run Time

This is the area that separates the DRS-NV from conventional red dots. The night vision system runs on two rechargeable cells and Holosun rates run time at about 8 hours in observation mode and 6 hours with all functions running. That is a full night of hunting, but not weeks. Charging is through a magnetic USB connection, and spare cells are a smart addition for long sessions. Plan to charge after every night out.

Who Benefits Most

The DRS-NV makes the most sense for hog and predator hunters in states that allow night hunting, for property owners dealing with nuisance animals, and for anyone who wants a single optic for day and night on one rifle. It removes the need to buy a dedicated night vision scope and a separate red dot. Check your state game laws before hunting at night with any electronic optic or artificial light.

Limitations to Consider

Digital imaging is not the same as a premium analog tube or thermal imager. It cannot see through fog or brush, it depends on available light or an IR illuminator, and the display adds a small amount of lag compared with looking through glass. The weight and height also make it a poor fit for lightweight carbines. For the money, it remains one of the most practical day-and-night sights in its class.

Before You Buy

No FFL transfer is needed for an optic, so the DRS-NV ships directly to you. Night vision and electronic optics can face hunting restrictions in some states, so confirm your local game regulations before taking it to the field after dark, and budget for an IR illuminator if you hunt on very dark nights.

Who It Is For

The Holosun DRS-NV Night Vision Red Dot is a great fit for hog and predator hunters, rural property owners and AR owners who want one sight that handles both daylight shooting and night work without stacking separate devices.
