Holosun ARO Gold Multi-Reticle Sight Overview
Distributors list this model as ARO-MRS-GD, and Holosun now catalogs the same 2.48 by 1.54 by 2.63 inch, 3.38 ounce optic under the ARO Core name. The 0.866 inch window is a touch larger than the 20mm class it replaces, which helps when your head position is not perfect. The body is aluminum with a matte black finish. Adjustments are 0.5 MOA per click with plus or minus 50 MOA of windage and elevation, plenty for any carbine.
Why Gold
The gold LED sits between red and green. Many shooters with astigmatism see gold as a cleaner, rounder dot than red, and it reads well against green brush, dirt and snow. It is not quite as vivid as green in noon sun, but it is easier on the eyes over a long day at the range. If your current red dot looks like a smear, gold is the first thing to try.
Reticle Settings
The Multi-Reticle System switches between a 2 MOA dot, a 65 MOA circle, or the circle with the dot centered. The circle-dot is ideal for fast shooting inside 50 yards and for home defense. The 2 MOA dot alone is best for zeroing and stretching out to 200 yards on a 5.56 carbine. Holosun lists 10 daylight brightness settings and 2 for night vision devices.
Battery and Shake Awake
The coin cell loads from a side tray, so you can change it without pulling the optic or losing zero. Battery life is rated at 50,000 hours at setting 6, and Shake Awake turns the LED off when the rifle sits still and on again when it moves. That means a home-defense rifle can stay in the safe with the optic ready for months. There is no solar panel on this model.
Mount Height
The included riser sets the dot for a lower 1/3 co-witness over standard AR-15 iron sights, about 1.63 inches over the rail. That height suits most shooters and keeps the irons in the bottom of the window as a backup. Holosun’s current ARO Core retail package also lists a low 1.05 inch mount for shotguns and rimfires, but contents can vary by production run, so check the box before relying on it.
Value and Limits
At this price the ARO offers features that used to cost far more: a three-reticle menu, motion activation and a side battery tray. It is an open-tube dot, not an enclosed sight, and the aluminum body is not as tough as titanium. Holosun only shows the red version in some of its photos, so the gallery here uses distributor images of this exact gold model.
