Holosun AEMS EVO Gold Dot Superb 65 MOA Circle Rifle Optic

Description

The Holosun AEMS EVO Gold is the gold reticle version of Holosun Advanced Enclosed Micro Sight, Evolution generation. It is a rifle optic with a sealed emitter, a very large viewing window and a gold coloured reticle that sits in a part of the spectrum most shooters never try until they look through one. Mag5 Firearms stocks it and ships it direct with no transfer required.

Why the Holosun AEMS EVO Gold Runs a Gold Reticle

The emitter runs at 590 nanometres. That is amber gold rather than red or green, and it does something useful: it separates cleanly from foliage, from brown and grey backgrounds and from the red of a target berm. Shooters who find green too sharp and red too dim in daylight tend to settle on gold and stay there.

One honest caveat worth stating up front. The Holosun AEMS EVO Gold is rated at 50,000 hours of battery life, not the 100,000 hours Holosun publishes for the red and green AEMS EVO models. The gold emitter draws more current. It is still five and a half years of continuous runtime, but if the 100,000 hour figure is what sold you on this line, the gold version is not the one that delivers it.

Holosun AEMS EVO Gold Window and Reticle

The viewing window measures 1.26 by 0.98 inches. That is the largest window Holosun fits to an enclosed rifle optic, and the practical effect is that both eyes stay open and the housing stops feeling like a tube you have to look down. Speed on a close target comes from that, more than from any reticle choice.

The Holosun AEMS EVO Gold reticle is a 2 MOA dot inside a 65 MOA circle, and you can run the dot alone, the circle alone or both together. The 65 MOA circle is deliberately large. At close range it is a ranging and framing tool you pick up instantly in peripheral vision; at distance you ignore it and shoot the 2 MOA dot.

Adjustment is 0.5 MOA per click with 50 MOA of travel in windage and elevation. Half MOA clicks are finer than most red dots offer and they matter on a rifle, where a 2 MOA dot at 100 yards is genuinely capable of holding a group tighter than a 1 MOA click can resolve.

Holosun AEMS EVO Gold Enclosed Housing

This is a fully enclosed emitter. Rain, snow, dust and brush cannot reach the LED, which is the failure mode that takes open reflex sights out of service on a hunt or in bad weather. The housing is 7075 T6 aluminium with a MAO black finish, rated IP67 and tested to 1000G of shock.

Holosun builds Shake Awake into the Holosun AEMS EVO Gold, so the optic sleeps when the rifle is still and wakes the moment it moves. Combined with the enclosed housing and the sealed battery tray, that is what makes this a sight you can leave mounted in a safe for a season and still trust on opening morning.

Weight and Mounting

Be realistic about the weight. The optic body is 8.15 ounces and the mount adds 2.45 ounces, so you are adding over ten and a half ounces to the top of a rifle. On a carbine that is fine. On a lightweight hunting rifle you will feel it. The mount is Picatinny with a 1.63 inch optical centre height, which is lower third co-witness territory on an AR.

Brightness has twelve levels, eight for daylight and four that are night vision compatible. Power is a single CR2032 in a tray you can reach without dismounting the Holosun AEMS EVO Gold, so a battery change does not cost you your zero.

The Holosun AEMS EVO Gold is the same optic as the red and green AEMS EVO in every respect except emitter colour and the resulting battery figure. Same window, same 65 MOA circle, same housing, same mount. If you have handled one of the others, you already know how this one feels on a rifle.
