Holosun 407COMP Red 6 MOA Dot Proven Competition Optic

Description

The Holosun 407COMP Red 6 MOA Dot is a large-window, open-emitter pistol optic with one big red dot and nothing else to think about. It mounts on the RMR pattern and is built for USPSA and IDPA shooters, duty pistols and anyone who wants the fastest possible dot pickup at an approachable price.

Holosun 407COMP Red 6 MOA Dot Overview

Holosun lists a 1.1 by 0.87 inch window in a 7075 T6 aluminum body measuring 1.8 by 1.3 by 1.3 inches and weighing 1.7 ounces, with a 5000G vibration rating for slide-mounted service. Windage and elevation move 1 MOA per click across plus or minus 30 MOA. The 650nm red LED is the classic choice, offering strong contrast indoors and against green or brown backgrounds.

Speed First

A 6 MOA dot inside a 1.1 inch window is about as fast as a pistol optic gets. Your eye finds the dot even when your presentation is a little off, which is exactly what matters on the clock or under stress. Inside 15 yards the dot barely covers anything. For precise shots at 25 yards and beyond, consider a smaller dot or a multi-reticle model.

Why Red

Red is still the most widely used reticle color. It is efficient on battery, it is what most shooters learned on, and it contrasts well against green foliage and typical indoor ranges. If you have astigmatism and see a starburst, try the gold or green versions of this optic before giving up on red dots altogether.

Battery Life

Holosun lists 50,000 hours at setting 6 in its specifications and up to 100,000 hours in its feature copy. The coin cell sits in a side tray, so changing it never disturbs zero. Shake Awake turns the LED off when the gun is still and back on the moment it moves, and a lockout mode keeps the buttons from being pressed accidentally in a holster or range bag.

Mounting on Your Pistol

This optic uses the RMR footprint, the most widely supported pistol optic pattern, so plates are available for nearly every optic-ready pistol. Confirm your slide cut, use the correct screws with thread locker, and torque to spec. Because the window is tall, plan for suppressor-height irons if you want a co-witness, and make sure your holster is cut for a full-size optic.

Things to Keep in Mind

Open emitters can be blocked by rain, snow, lint or mud sitting on the LED, so this is better suited to competition, range and home-defense use than daily carry in harsh weather. It is not solar powered and does not have a multi-reticle menu; those features are on the 507COMP. Some gallery images show the green 407COMP, which shares this identical housing.

Ordering and Transfer

When you order a firearm from MAG5 Firearms, we ship it to the licensed dealer you choose. Your dealer completes the ATF Form 4473 and the background check, and may charge a transfer fee. Local buyers can complete the transfer at our shop. Bring a valid ID, and check your state waiting period before you plan a hunt or a range trip.

Safe Storage

Store the firearm unloaded in a locked safe or case, with ammunition kept separately. A cable lock or trigger lock is a good backup, especially in a home with children or visitors. Keep the original box and paperwork, and record the serial number in a safe place in case the gun is ever lost or stolen.
