Holosun 407COMP Gold 6 MOA Dot Flawless Competition Optic

Description

The Holosun 407COMP Gold 6 MOA Dot is a large-window pistol optic with a single 6 MOA gold dot, mounted on the RMR pattern. It is a no-frills competition and duty optic for shooters who want a big window and a big, crisp dot without a reticle menu to manage.

Holosun 407COMP Gold 6 MOA Dot Overview

Holosun lists the window at 1.1 by 0.87 inches, much larger than compact carry optics, in a 7075 T6 aluminum body of 1.8 by 1.3 by 1.3 inches weighing 1.7 ounces. It is rated for 5000G of vibration, so slide-mounted recoil is no problem. Adjustments are 1 MOA per click with plus or minus 30 MOA of travel. The gold LED, around 590nm, sits between red and green on the spectrum.

Gold for Sharper Edges

Many shooters with astigmatism see a red dot bloom into a smear or a comet. Gold often renders as a rounder, sharper dot, and it holds contrast against both indoor and outdoor backgrounds. It is easier on the eyes than green during long range sessions, while still standing out better than red in bright sun for many people.

Big Dot, Big Window

Combining a 6 MOA dot with a 1.1 inch window makes this one of the fastest optics to pick up on the draw. That is why competitors in USPSA Carry Optics and IDPA favor large-window sights. The trade-off is precision past 25 yards, where the dot covers more of the target. For bullseye or long-range pistol work, choose a 2 MOA dot.

Power and Controls

The battery sits in a side tray, so you can change it without unmounting the optic. Holosun lists 50,000 hours at setting 6 in its spec table and up to 100,000 hours in its feature text; either way it is years of normal use with Shake Awake turning the LED off when the pistol sits still. There are 8 daylight brightness settings plus night vision settings, with memory and lockout.

Mounting

The optic uses the RMR footprint, so it fits a wide range of factory plates and milled slides. Many optic-ready pistols need a plate, so check your cut first. Use the correct screw length, thread locker and proper torque. The tall window usually requires suppressor-height irons for a co-witness, and you will need a holster cut for a full-size optic.

Open Emitter Trade-Off

The LED is exposed between the lens and the slide, so rain, lint or mud can block the dot. For competition and range use that is seldom an issue. For daily carry in harsh weather, an enclosed optic is more forgiving. Holosun shares gallery photos across 407COMP colors, so one image shows the green model with this identical housing.

Ordering and Transfer

When you order a firearm from MAG5 Firearms, we ship it to the licensed dealer you choose. Your dealer completes the ATF Form 4473 and the background check, and may charge a transfer fee. Local buyers can complete the transfer at our shop. Bring a valid ID, and check your state waiting period before you plan a hunt or a range trip.

Safe Storage

Store the firearm unloaded in a locked safe or case, with ammunition kept separately. A cable lock or trigger lock is a good backup, especially in a home with children or visitors. Keep the original box and paperwork, and record the serial number in a safe place in case the gun is ever lost or stolen.
