Description
The GSG-16 22LR OD Green 10 Round Carbine wraps German Sport Guns’ MP5-style rimfire carbine in an olive drab green receiver and grip, with a black barrel shroud and stock. It is imported by American Tactical (ATI), chambered in inexpensive .22 LR and supplied with a 10-round magazine for shooters who want a capacity-limited configuration.
GSG-16 22LR OD Green 10 Round Carbine Overview
Under the green furniture is the same proven GSG-16 design: a straight blowback action, a polymer receiver and a 16.25-inch barrel hidden inside a faux suppressor that is permanently attached to reach legal rifle length. That shroud is cosmetic and does not lower the report. MP5-style front and rear sights, a top Picatinny rail and a railed handguard give you plenty of options for optics and accessories, while the weight stays under six pounds.
The Olive Drab Look
Distributors describe this finish as olive drab green. It is a molded and applied color on polymer parts, so it may look slightly different from metal OD Cerakote or green accessories from other brands, and it can vary somewhat between production lots. The barrel shroud, stock and many small parts stay black, so the carbine has a two-tone military look rather than being green from end to end.
Fit and Adjustability
The collapsible stock gives an overall length of about 28.5 to 34.25 inches, which helps fit younger and smaller shooters while still working for adults wearing a jacket. A storage compartment in the stock holds small spare parts or batteries for a red dot. The ambidextrous forward charging handle and two-position thumb safety keep the controls familiar to anyone who has handled an MP5 or one of its clones.
Feeding It Right
Blowback .22 carbines run best on high-velocity, round-nose ammunition, especially during the first few hundred rounds. Standard-velocity and subsonic loads may not cycle the bolt reliably. Rimfire residue builds quickly, so clean the chamber and bolt face after long sessions. Keep magazines clean as well, because the GSG-16 is sensitive to dirty or damaged feed lips. The 1-in-16 twist suits common 36 to 40 grain bullets.
Ten Rounds by Design
This configuration ships with one 10-round magazine. GSG also makes 22-round and 110-round drum magazines that fit the GSG-16, but check your state and local rules before buying larger magazines. Spare 10-round magazines are sold in twin packs, and it is worth having several so you can keep shooting while others reload. Magazine loading is easy with the follower button.
Honest Take
This is a fun, affordable rimfire, not a precision rifle. Expect plinking-grade accuracy suited to cans and steel at typical .22 distances. The polymer receiver feels lighter and less solid than a metal MP5 clone, and fit and finish are basic. Resale value is modest. For range days, teaching new shooters and inexpensive practice with a distinctive look, it delivers good value for its price.
State Laws and Ownership
Distributors list the GSG-16 as restricted in states including California, Colorado, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, depending on configuration and local law. Some localities also regulate adjustable stocks or threaded-style shrouds. Check your state and local laws before ordering, and confirm that your receiving dealer can transfer it.
