Description

The Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel is the version of the G19 that arrives with the two modifications most people were going to pay for anyway. The slide is cut for an optic from the factory, and the barrel leaves the muzzle threaded 1/2×28. Both are done in Smyrna, both are covered by Glock’s warranty, and neither requires you to send a new pistol away before you can shoot it.

The Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel carries the first real redesign of the Glock grip in years, and the changes are not cosmetic. There is a palm swell, an enlarged beavertail, an undercut trigger guard, a textured and extended thumb rest, and a new RTF6 texture that blends two patterns across more of the frame than Gen5 ever covered.

We are holding two hundred. Worth saying plainly: Sports South currently shows this part number out of stock, so the Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel on our shelf is deeper than the distributor’s, not a drop ship.

Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel at a glance

  • Compact 9mm, striker fired on Glock’s Safe Action system, 10+1 capacity with the magazines in the box.
  • 4.02 inch steel barrel threaded 1/2×28, shipped with a thread protector fitted.
  • Steel slide with the Gen6 optic mounting system and deeper angled serrations front and rear.
  • Polymer frame with an accessory rail, interchangeable backstraps and fully ambidextrous controls.
  • Flat faced trigger, new for Gen6, in place of the curved Gen5 shoe.
  • RTF6 grip texture, palm swell, enlarged beavertail and an undercut trigger guard.

What Gen6 actually changed

  • Palm swell. The frame now follows the natural curve of the hand instead of presenting a flat slab, which is the single biggest difference you feel picking one up.
  • Enlarged beavertail. It encourages a higher grip without the slide catching the web of your hand on the way back.
  • RTF6 texture. Two surface patterns blended together, covering more of the frame than the Gen5 texture did.
  • Flat faced trigger. Consistent finger placement shot to shot, with the Safe Action mechanism unchanged behind it.
  • Optic mounting system with three interchangeable plates, engineered around durability rather than the thin adapter plates the aftermarket has been selling.
  • Slide serrations cut deeper and angled into the slide, so a wet or gloved hand gets more purchase.
  • Enlarged slide stop lever border to stop a thumb riding it unintentionally, plus a textured extended thumb rest.

Glock publishes 7.28 inches as the overall length of a standard G19 Gen6. The threaded muzzle and its protector sit past the end of the slide, so the Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel measures a little longer than that figure in the hand. Frame and slide dimensions are otherwise identical to the standard gun, which means holsters and accessories cut for a G19 Gen6 fit, provided the holster is open at the muzzle.

Optics, threads and what we can and cannot sell you

The Gen6 optic system ships with three plates, which covers the common footprints. If your dot is not one of them, we stock C&H adapter plates cut specifically for the Gen6 slide, including the C&H plate for Glock Gen6 to RMR, SRO and Holosun, which covers the widest slice of the red dot market in one part.

On the muzzle: 1/2×28 is the standard 9mm thread, and it takes compensators, muzzle brakes and thread protectors freely. It also takes suppressors, and those are NFA items. MAG5 does not sell or transfer suppressors, so if that is where you are headed with the Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel, the can needs to come from a dealer who handles NFA transfers and needs ATF approval before it goes home with you. The pistol itself is an ordinary firearm transfer.

The Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel ships with 10 round magazines. Any double stack Glock pattern 9mm magazine fits, so if you are somewhere that higher capacity is legal, the Magpul PMAG 15 GL9 is the flush fitting 15 round option and one of the deepest stocked items we carry.

Shooting and feeding the Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel

The Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel is a 4.02 inch 9mm with a steel slide and a 22 ounce loaded weight, which is about as easy as a compact pistol gets to shoot well. The flat trigger face is the change most people notice second, after the grip: it puts the finger in the same place every time, which does more for consistency than a lighter pull would.

On the Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel the threads add a small amount of weight right at the muzzle, and that is not a drawback. It settles the front sight slightly faster than a standard G19 does. If you hang a compensator off the threads the effect gets more pronounced, though a comp on a 9mm compact is a solution looking for a problem for most shooters.

For defensive use, Federal 147 grain HST is the load we would put in it, and it is worth running a box through the gun before trusting it, the same as with any pistol. Practice ammunition should be standard pressure 115 or 124 grain ball.

How it compares in our racks

  • The standard Glock 19 Gen6 is the same pistol without the threaded muzzle, and it is the choice if you are never going to put anything on the end of the barrel.
  • The Glock 45 Gen6 pairs a full size grip with the same 4.02 inch slide, which suits larger hands and duty holsters.
  • Against a Gen5 G19, the grip on the Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel is the reason to move. Everything behind the frame is familiar Glock.
  • Against the aftermarket route, a factory threaded barrel and a factory optic cut keep the warranty intact, which a slide sent out for milling does not.

The short version on the Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel is that it is the most capable configuration of the most widely carried pistol in the country, sold ready for a dot and ready for a muzzle device, at a price that does not carry a gunsmith’s bill on top. Specifications here come from the distributor record and from Glock’s own G19 Gen6 page.

The Glock 19 Gen6 Threaded Barrel is a serialized firearm and ships to a licensed dealer for transfer. Stock is two hundred units and this part number is an allocated item, so the shelf does not refill on demand.
