Description
The Glenfield Model A 450 Bushmaster is a plain-spoken, hard-hitting bolt-action rifle for hunters who have to work inside straight-wall cartridge rules and still want a rifle that handles like a rifle. This is Glenfield item 52007: a 3+1 bolt gun with a 20 inch threaded barrel, a Moss Green splatter synthetic stock, and a Picatinny rail sitting right on top of the receiver.
What makes the Glenfield Model A 450 Bushmaster worth a second look is the bolt. Glenfield built it as a one-piece three-lug bolt with a 70 degree throw, a layout you normally meet on rifles that cost a good deal more. The short lift keeps your knuckles clear of a low-mounted scope and shortens the cycle stroke, so the second shot in thick cover comes faster than it does on a two-lug rifle with a 90 degree lift.
At 6.4 pounds before you hang glass on it, this is a woods rifle you can carry all day without resenting it. The barrel already wears a thread protector, the receiver already wears a rail, and the trigger is adjustable out of the box. There is very little left to buy before you can sight it in and go hunting.
Features of the Glenfield Model A 450 Bushmaster
- One-piece three-lug bolt with a 70 degree throw for a fast cycle and generous scope clearance
- 20 inch matte black threaded barrel with a 1:16 twist, shipped with the thread protector installed
- Matte black alloy steel receiver with an integral Picatinny rail, so there is no separate base to buy or shim
- Moss Green splatter fixed synthetic stock that hides handling marks far better than a gloss finish does
- Three-round detachable polymer box magazine for a 3+1 load
- Adjustable trigger breaking in the three to five pound range
- Manual safety, and a bare weight of 6.4 pounds

Why the 450 Bushmaster cartridge suits this rifle
- Straight-wall legality: the 450 Bushmaster is accepted for deer in many states that bar bottleneck rifle cartridges, which is the main reason a rifle like this exists
- A 250 to 300 grain bullet leaving a 20 inch barrel at roughly 2,100 to 2,200 feet per second hits hard and drops fast, which suits the 150 to 200 yard shots most straight-wall country actually offers
- Recoil is firm but short, and the 6.4 pound weight of the Glenfield Model A keeps it honest rather than punishing
- Factory ammunition is widely produced now, from economical range loads through bonded and expanding hunting bullets
- A bolt action feeds heavy flat-nose 450 bullets more willingly than a magazine-fed semi-automatic does, which is a quiet advantage nobody advertises

Fitment notes for this threaded 450 Bushmaster rifle
Spare magazines. We would rather be straight with you than take the sale. The only Glenfield Model A magazines currently on our shelf are cut for 350 Legend and for the long-action chamberings, and neither of those will feed 450 Bushmaster. If you want a spare for this rifle, ask us and we will chase the correct part number down rather than ship you a magazine that does not fit.
Muzzle devices. The barrel is threaded 11/16×24, which is the usual pitch for this bore. The Glenfield muzzle brakes we stock are cut 1/2-28 and will not thread onto this rifle, so check the pitch stamped on any brake or compensator before you order. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items such as suppressors or short-barreled rifles; a can for this thread would need ATF approval through a dealer who handles that paperwork.
Optics. Nothing ships on the rail, so budget for rings and a scope. Pair the rifle with our Leupold VX-Freedom Straight-Wall 3-9×40, whose reticle is calibrated for the steep drop of straight-wall cartridges, and feed it with DoubleTap 450 Bushmaster 300 grain bonded hunting ammunition. If you want the same action in a chambering that is cheaper to shoot, the Glenfield Model A in 223 Remington shares the bolt, the rail and the stock. Background on the cartridge itself is gathered on the .450 Bushmaster reference page.
Why this firearm earns its place
- The three-lug 70 degree bolt is the feature that normally separates a mid-priced rifle from an entry-level one, and here it comes standard
- The integral Picatinny rail removes the single most common source of accuracy complaints on budget bolt guns, which is a poorly fitted scope base
- Threaded from the factory with the protector already on, so you are not paying a gunsmith later
- 6.4 pounds is genuinely light for a 450 Bushmaster, and the Moss Green splatter stock is a finish that improves rather than degrades with use
- A 3+1 bolt action keeps you legal in straight-wall states and legal in places with magazine limits at the same time
This rifle suits the deer hunter in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa or any other straight-wall state who wants one uncomplicated bolt gun that will do the job for twenty seasons. It also makes sense as a first centerfire rifle for a new hunter, because the short bolt lift, the light weight and the adjustable trigger are all forgiving of inexperience.
Every firearm we ship goes to a licensed dealer in your state for the transfer and the background check. If you are not sure which shop near you accepts transfers, call us and we will help you sort it out before you order.
Sighting in your Glenfield Model A 450 Bushmaster
Zero this rifle at 100 yards and the 450 Bushmaster will put you roughly three inches high at 50 and around eight inches low at 150, depending on the load. That is a practical window for woods hunting, and it is worth confirming on paper with the exact ammunition you intend to carry rather than trusting a printed table. Torque the scope rings evenly, let the barrel cool between three-shot groups, and expect the first two rounds through a clean bore to wander slightly before the rifle settles.
Moss green splatter stock and the three lug seventy degree bolt
Two details do most of the work on the Glenfield 52007. The moss green splatter stock is a molded finish rather than a paint layer, so scuffs from a truck bed or a tree stand blend in instead of standing out, and the texture stays grippy with wet gloves on. The three lug seventy degree bolt is the other one: three lugs mean a shorter rotation and a shallower bolt lift than the traditional two-lug ninety degree pattern, which is why a scope can sit low over the rail without fouling your hand. Together they are what makes this threaded 450 Bushmaster rifle feel like a considered design rather than a price-point one.
