Description
Federal AE 40 SW 155gr FMJ ammunition is a lighter, faster American Eagle practice load for 40 S&W pistols. The 155 grain full metal jacket bullet leaves a 4 inch test barrel at about 1,160 feet per second, giving a flatter trajectory and a quicker recoil impulse than 180 grain loads. Each box holds 50 rounds.
A Faster Option for 40 S&W Shooters
Most 40 S&W ammunition uses a 180 grain bullet, but the 155 grain weight has its own following. The lighter bullet moves faster, which flattens trajectory and gives a sharper, quicker recoil that some shooters find easier to track during fast strings.
If you carry a 155 or 165 grain defensive load, practicing with this weight keeps recoil and point of impact closer to what you carry. Federal’s published data shows this load holding about 1,000 feet per second at 75 yards.
American Eagle is made with Federal primers, Federal brass and clean burning powders for dependable function box after box.

Practice Tips
Use Federal AE 40 SW 155gr FMJ ammo only in firearms chambered for 40 S&W.
Lighter bullets can print slightly lower than 180 grain loads in some pistols. Check your sights at 7 and 15 yards.
Work on controlled pairs to learn how quickly your sights return after the faster recoil.
Clean and lubricate your pistol after each range session.
Federal AE 40 SW 155gr FMJ ammo is a proven choice for 40 S&W owners who prefer a lighter, faster bullet and anyone who carries a 155 or 165 grain defensive load.
Federal AE 40 SW 155gr FMJ ammo produces roughly 460 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle by standard calculation, noticeably more than typical 9mm practice loads. That energy comes with noticeable recoil, which is why regular practice matters so much with the 40 S&W.
A 50 round box is a practical amount for a focused range session. With a couple of boxes of Federal AE 40 SW 155gr FMJ rounds, you can work through slow fire, drawing from the holster, reloads and shooting on the move in a single afternoon.
Full metal jacket bullets feed reliably in nearly all 40 S&W pistols, leave clean holes in paper and are more affordable than hollow points.
Store your ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original box. Buying several boxes of Federal AE 40 SW 155gr FMJ from the same lot keeps your point of impact consistent and makes sure you always have range ammunition ready. Inspect your magazines regularly as well, since worn springs cause many feeding problems.
Practice with a purpose. Before each session, pick one or two skills to improve, such as a smoother trigger press or faster reloads, and spend most of your rounds on those goals. Finish with a short timed drill to measure your progress, and clean your pistol afterward so it is ready for next time.
The 40 S&W remains common in duty style pistols from many major makers, so magazines, holsters and parts are easy to find. That makes it a practical caliber to keep training with for years, and a steady supply of quality practice ammunition keeps your skills sharp between trips.
