Description

The CH Precision Duty Multi-Reticle Red Dot is a closed-emitter pistol optic built for officers, armed citizens and competitors who need a sight that keeps working when rain, lint and mud get involved. It gives you three reticle choices in one compact housing and mounts on the popular Aimpoint ACRO pattern.

CH Precision Duty Multi-Reticle Red Dot Overview

C&H Precision Weapons is best known for its pistol optic plates, and the Duty is the company’s answer for shooters who want an enclosed sight without the bulk of a rifle dot. A sealed housing protects the emitter from debris that can block or smear the dot on open designs. Inside, the red multi-reticle system lets you run a crisp 3 MOA dot for precise shots, a 30 MOA circle for fast close-range pickup, or both together. The 16mm objective and 1x magnification keep things simple: both eyes open, dot on target, press the trigger.

Sealed Closed-Emitter Design

Open-emitter dots project the reticle from an exposed diode at the rear of the window, which means a drop of water or a bit of pocket lint can block the dot at the worst moment. The Duty encloses the emitter between two lenses, so the path from diode to glass stays clean. The housing is CNC machined from one piece of aircraft-grade aluminum and is rated IPX7, meaning it can survive submersion to one meter for 30 minutes.

C&H also rates it as shockproof and suitable for +P and +P+ ammunition, which matters on a slide that sees thousands of rounds.

Three Reticles in One Sight

Reticle choice is personal, and the Duty does not force one on you. The 3 MOA dot covers roughly three inches at 100 yards, small enough for accurate shots at 25 yards and beyond. The 30 MOA circle frames the target quickly and draws the eye to center, which many shooters find faster when the gun is coming up from the holster. Combining the two gives you a fast circle for close work and the precise center dot for distance.

Switching between them takes only a few button presses, so you can experiment at the range and settle on what works for you.

Battery Life and Motion Sensing

Power comes from a single coin-cell battery, with C&H quoting up to 50,000 hours of run time at moderate settings. After five minutes without movement the sight shuts down to save power, and the Shake Awake motion sensor turns it back on the moment you pick the pistol up or draw. That combination means you can leave it set at your preferred brightness instead of switching it on and off. Even so, plan to replace the battery on a schedule, such as once a year or on a memorable date, rather than waiting for the dot to fade.

Brightness and Adjustments

Ten brightness settings cover everything from a dim hallway to bright afternoon sun, and the two lowest settings are compatible with night vision devices. Windage and elevation move in 1 MOA clicks with 45 MOA of travel in each direction, which is plenty for zeroing on a pistol slide. The optic is parallax-optimized at 33 yards, a realistic distance for handgun work. Zero at 15 or 25 yards depending on your use, then confirm at a few distances so you know where the dot sits relative to point of impact.

Mounting and Fit

The Duty uses the Aimpoint ACRO footprint with a side-clamping mount, the same interface found on a growing number of factory optic-ready slides and plates. If your pistol is cut for a different pattern, such as RMR or RMSc, you will need a compatible adapter plate or a slide milled for ACRO. At 1.9 inches long, 1.2 inches wide and 1.25 inches tall, and weighing about 2.2 ounces, it fits full-size and compact duty pistols without looking oversized. On a rifle or carbine it can ride on an ACRO-pattern Picatinny mount as a primary sight or an offset backup.

Closed vs. Open Emitter: The Honest Trade-Offs

A closed emitter is not free. Enclosed sights are usually a little taller and heavier than open designs, and the extra rear lens adds one more surface to keep clean. Taller optics can also make iron sight co-witness harder, so check whether your pistol needs suppressor-height sights to see them through the window. The window on the standard Duty is smaller than on the Duty XL, so shooters who want the widest view may prefer the XL. For most carry and duty use, though, trading a few millimeters of height for a sealed emitter is a sensible deal.

Before You Buy

Confirm your pistol is cut for the ACRO pattern, or that you have the correct adapter plate, before ordering. Check that the mounting screws are the right length for your slide, because screws that are too long can bind the firing pin channel. Use a thread locker approved for optics, torque screws to the plate maker’s specification, and verify zero with the ammunition you actually carry.
