Brenneke Magnum Crush 12 GA Slug – Devastating 3 in 1-1/2 oz Rifled Barrel Slug, 1604 fps, 5 Rounds

Description

The Brenneke Magnum Crush 12 GA Slug is the most powerful hunting slug Brenneke makes. This 3 inch load pushes a massive 1-1/2 oz (656 grain) lead slug at a rated 1604 feet per second, producing roughly 3804 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. That is serious power for large game and for protection in bear country. Brenneke designed it specifically for rifled barrels, and its broad ribs engage the rifling across the full length of the bore for excellent accuracy. A special coating reduces lead fouling, which helps groups stay consistent from the first shot to the last.

Why Serious Hunters Carry This 3 Inch Magnum Slug

Heavy 1-1/2 oz slug with the highest energy in the Brenneke hunting line

For rifled barrels and 3 inch chambers only

Broad ribs engage the rifling for accuracy across its full range

Special coating helps reduce lead fouling

Patented Brenneke design in which the rear slides into the point on impact

Brenneke Magnum Crush 12 GA Slug Performance

Rated muzzle velocity of 1604 fps

About 3804 ft-lbs of muzzle energy

Flat trajectory for large game at a range of distances

Deep, straight penetration on heavy-boned animals

A dedicated rifled barrel slug like this one differs from the full-bore slugs meant for smooth barrels. Its broad ribs are shaped to grip the rifling, so the projectile leaves the muzzle spinning, which keeps it stable at longer distances. Firing it through a smooth bore will not take advantage of that design, so pair it with a rifled barrel or a fully rifled slug gun for the best results.

Clean the bore between range sessions, since lead and plastic fouling can open up groups from a rifled barrel. Let the barrel cool between strings of shots so heat does not shift your point of impact.

A Dangerous Game Shotgun Load

The Magnum Crush design has gone along on polar and scientific expeditions, African hunts and long trips through the Alaskan wilderness, places where stopping power can matter far more than convenience. For anyone who carries a 12 gauge as bear defense ammo while fishing, guiding or working in the backcountry, a heavy, deep-penetrating slug like this is the kind of load people trust when there is no second chance.

Recoil from a 1-1/2 oz slug at this velocity is substantial, so practice matters. Fire enough rounds at the range to learn the gun and to confirm that your rifled barrel groups well with this load. Brenneke has made slugs in Germany since 1898, and the consistency of each round in the box reflects that long experience.

Hunters pursuing elk, moose, large hogs or bear with a rifled-barrel 12 gauge, and anyone carrying a shotgun for protection in grizzly or brown bear country, will get the most from this load. It should only be fired in guns with 3 inch or longer chambers and a rifled barrel. Follow all federal, state and local hunting regulations when using this ammunition.

Store these shells in a cool, dry place in the original box so the lot number stays with the ammunition. Before relying on them in the field, confirm point of impact at 50 and 100 yards with the same lot you plan to carry, and note any shift from your usual hunting load.

Shot placement still matters more than raw power. A set of rifle-style sights or a low-power optic makes precise aiming far easier than a bead, and a steady rest at the range shows what your barrel and this load can really do.
