Brenneke Green Lightning 12 GA Slug – Hard-Hitting 2-3/4 in 1-1/4 oz Deer Slug, 1476 fps, 5 Rounds

Description

The Brenneke Green Lightning 12 GA Slug is one of the heaviest loads in the Brenneke lineup, built for deer hunters who want authority at longer shotgun distances. Brenneke calls it a Heavy Field Short Magnum: a standard 2-3/4 inch shell that pushes a 1-1/4 oz (525 grain) solid lead slug at a rated 1476 feet per second. That works out to roughly 2538 foot-pounds of muzzle energy, a figure that approaches many centerfire rifle cartridges. A distinctive green coating on the slug helps cut down on lead fouling in the barrel, so accuracy holds up through a day of shooting.

Why Hunters Trust This 12 Gauge Deer Slug

Heavy 1-1/4 oz solid lead slug carries energy well past typical slug ranges

Fits any 12 gauge with a 2-3/4 inch or longer chamber

Angled ribs on the lead point help the slug pass smoothly through chokes

Patented Brenneke design in which the rear slides into the point on impact for deep penetration

Green coating helps reduce barrel fouling between cleanings

Brenneke Green Lightning 12 GA Slug Performance

Rated muzzle velocity of 1476 fps

About 2538 ft-lbs of muzzle energy

Brenneke reports 2.95 inch five-shot groups at 100 yards in independent testing

Strong penetration compared with many competing slug designs

Shot placement still matters more than raw power. A simple set of rifle-style sights or a low-power optic on a slug gun makes precise aiming far easier than a single bead, and a steady rest at the range will reveal what your barrel and this load can really do. Once you know your holdover at longer distances, you can take shots with confidence instead of guessing.

A Smoothbore Slug That Reaches Out

Many hunters still carry a smooth-barreled pump or semi-auto, and a full-bore lead slug like this one is designed to shoot well from those guns without a rifled barrel. The attached wad keeps the heavy projectile stable in flight, and the mass of the slug helps it hold a flatter path than lighter loads. That makes it a practical long range shotgun slug for open fields, power line cuts and bean fields where shots can stretch past 75 yards.

Brenneke has built slugs in Germany since 1898, and the Green Lightning carries the same attention to consistent weight and concentric construction that has kept the company in hunters’ vests for generations. Each round in the box should print close to the last, which is exactly what you want when a single shot decides the season.

Deer and hog hunters who shoot a 12 gauge with 2-3/4 inch or 3 inch chambers will get the most from this load, particularly where regulations require shotguns for big game. Because of the heavy payload, recoil is stout, so a good recoil pad and a solid shooting position help. Sight in with the same lot you plan to hunt with and confirm point of impact at 50, 75 and 100 yards before opening day. Follow all federal, state and local hunting regulations when using this ammunition.

Store these shells in a cool, dry place in the original box so the lot number stays with the ammunition, and keep slugs separate from birdshot in your pack so there is no confusion in the field. A few rounds at the range before the season will also show you how your gun handles the recoil of a heavy field short magnum load.
