Black Rain Ordnance Spec 15 Stripped AR-15 Lower Receiver Armored Black Cerakote – Superb Rugged Build Base

Description

The Black Rain Ordnance Spec 15 Lower is a forged 7075-T6 stripped AR-15 receiver finished in Armored Black Cerakote and marked multi-caliber. It is the serialized part of a rifle you build yourself, and it is where most custom AR projects start.

Read the next section before you buy. A stripped lower is not most of a rifle, and it is not an accessory either.

Two things to understand before you order a Black Rain Ordnance Spec 15 Lower

• A stripped lower receiver is a firearm. It ships to your FFL and goes through a background check exactly as a complete rifle does, even though it has no moving parts and costs about as much as a good optic mount.
• It is only the receiver. There is no trigger, no hammer, no safety selector, no magazine catch, no pistol grip, no buffer tube and no stock. You will need a lower parts kit and a buffer kit as well as an upper before this becomes a rifle.

What you are paying for in a Black Rain Ordnance Spec 15 Lower

• Forged 7075-T6 aluminum. Forged rather than billet or cast, which is the standard the mil-spec parts ecosystem is built around.
• Armored Black Cerakote rather than bare hard-coat anodizing. Cerakote is a sprayed ceramic finish and it resists corrosion better than anodizing does, which matters on a rifle that lives in a truck or a damp safe.
• Multi-caliber marked, so the serialized part is not tied to one chambering and the same lower can carry a 5.56 upper today and a 300 Blackout upper next year.
• Machined to mil-spec tolerances, so standard internals and any mil-spec upper will fit.

Why the Black Rain Ordnance Spec 15 Lower earns its place

• Cerakote over forged 7075 for the price of a plain anodized lower is straightforwardly good value.
• Multi-caliber marking keeps your options open, and the serialized part is the one you cannot swap later.
• Black Rain Ordnance machine in Missouri and have a real reputation among people who build their own rifles.
• Building on a stripped lower is how most shooters end up with exactly the rifle they wanted rather than the closest thing on a shelf.
• If you already have a parts bin, this is the cheapest way to start a new project.

What to buy with a Black Rain Ordnance Spec 15 Lower. A TacFire lower parts kit with an A2 grip gives you everything the receiver is missing in one box and is the least expensive route to a working lower. If you would rather have a better trigger from the start, the Rise Armament premium lower parts kit is the upgrade. Then you need an upper: a TacFire complete 16 inch upper is the simplest way to finish the build.

Be honest with yourself about the assembly. Fitting a lower parts kit is not difficult, but it involves small springs and detents that launch across a room if you are careless, and a roll pin for the bolt catch that is genuinely annoying without the right punch. There are good videos for it. If that does not appeal, buy a complete lower instead and skip the step entirely.

And be aware of your state. AR-pattern rifles are restricted by feature, by name or by magazine capacity in a number of places, and some states regulate receivers specifically. The rules change. Tell us the delivery address when you order and we will check before we take your money.

If you want a different starting point, the Andro Corp ACI-15 stripped lower is the other stripped receiver we hold in quantity.
