Bergara Premier Barreled Action 25 Creedmoor 24in Stainless — Superb #5.5 Contour

Description

The Bergara Premier Barreled Action in 25 Creedmoor is the starting point for a custom build rather than a finished rifle. As a 25 Creedmoor barreled action it pairs a 416 stainless action with a 24 inch Bergara stainless barrel in the #5.5 contour already fitted, headspaced and threaded 5/8-24 with a protector, so the hard machining is done and what is left is choosing the furniture. Be clear about what arrives. This is the action and the barrel. There is no stock or chassis, no bottom metal, no magazine and no trigger in the box.

That is the whole point of buying a barreled action, but it is worth knowing before you order, because the parts you still need can easily match the price of the action itself.

What Makes the Bergara Premier Barreled Action Worth Building On

The action is machined in the United States from 416 stainless. It uses a two lug bolt with a spiral fluted body and an enlarged handle, a dual ejector with a sliding plate extractor, a pinned recoil lug and a nitride bayonet style quarter turn bolt shroud. Nothing about it is exotic, and that is deliberate: it is a well made action built to a familiar pattern.

That pattern is the Remington 700 footprint. Bergara confirms the barreled action will go into Remington 700 style stocks and chassis, with the sensible caveat that they cannot guarantee fit or function in a product they did not make. In practice that opens up essentially the entire aftermarket, from a McMillan or Manners stock to a chassis from any of the major makers.

The barrel is Bergara’s own 416 stainless in the #5.5 contour, a middle weight profile that is heavy enough to hold point of impact through a string and light enough to carry. This is a threaded stainless barrel in the truest sense, and twist is 1:7.5, which is what 25 Creedmoor needs to stabilise the long, high ballistic coefficient 130 and 135 grain bullets that make the cartridge interesting.

Planning the Build Around This Bergara Premier Action

Budget for the parts that are not here. A trigger, bottom metal and a magazine are all separate purchases, and so is the stock or chassis. Remington 700 pattern triggers are widely available at every price point, which is one more argument for the footprint.

25 Creedmoor is a young cartridge but it is a straightforward one: a 6.5 Creedmoor case necked down to a quarter inch. Factory ammunition exists from several makers and is growing, brass is available, and dies are easy to find. It is not as widely stocked as 6.5 Creedmoor and it probably never will be, so plan on ordering ahead rather than buying at a counter.

Because the receiver is the firearm, this barreled action transfers like a rifle. It ships to a licensed dealer, not to your door, and you will complete a 4473 and a background check to take possession even though it is not a functioning rifle when you receive it.

Why it is worth considering

• Headspaced and fitted at the factory, so no gunsmith time is needed to marry barrel to action
• Remington 700 footprint opens the whole aftermarket for stocks, chassis and triggers
• A 1:7.5 twist matched to the heavy bullets 25 Creedmoor was designed around
• #5.5 contour balances a stable barrel against a rifle you can still carry
• Threaded 5/8-24 from the factory with the protector fitted

Who it suits

This suits the builder who wants a known good action and barrel and intends to choose everything else, and the shooter moving into 25 Creedmoor who already has a chassis or a stock waiting. It is not the right purchase if you want a rifle you can shoot the week it arrives.

Ammunition, Optics and Transfer Notes for the Bergara Premier Barreled Action

25 Creedmoor is a 6.5 Creedmoor case necked down to .257, and it exists because modern quarter bore bullets finally have the ballistic coefficients to justify the caliber. Factory loads center on 131 to 135 grain match and hunting bullets, which is exactly what the 1:7.5 twist in this barrel is cut for. Cartridge and chamber standards are published by SAAMI, so factory ammunition and dies are straightforward to source even though the round is newer than most.

Since you are building the rifle anyway, plan the optic and the base at the same time as the stock. A 20 MOA rail is worth fitting from the start if the rifle is going past 800 yards, and it costs nothing extra to decide that now rather than after you have mounted a flat base. The same goes for bottom metal: pick the magazine pattern before the stock is inlet, not after.

One practical note on the transfer. The action is the serialised part, so this Bergara Premier Barreled Action ships to a licensed dealer of your choosing and you will complete a 4473 and a NICS check on collection. If you would rather have a rifle that is ready to shoot, our Barrett MRAD in 7mm PRC is a complete precision rig, and the rest of our inventory is on the MAG5 Firearms shop page.
