Description

The Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol in 12 gauge, part number J32CTC11, is the chisel stock build of the defensive A300. The barrel is 19.10 inches, capacity is seven plus one, and the stock is a fixed chisel design with a separate polymer pistol grip rather than a conventional shotgun stock. The receiver is black aluminium with a Picatinny rail, and the forend carries M-LOK slots, so a light mounts directly without a barrel clamp.

This is the configuration for a shooter who wants a defensive shotgun set up like a carbine rather than like a field gun.

Chisel stock and pistol grip, and who they suit

A separate pistol grip puts the trigger hand in the same position it takes on an AR, which for a shooter who already runs one is the whole argument. The wrist angle and the reach to the trigger match what the hands already know.

The chisel stock is fixed. There is no hinge to loosen, no latch to fail and no chance of finding it half deployed in the dark, which are real advantages on a gun that sits loaded and untouched for months.

The tradeoff is mounting speed for a shooter used to a conventional stock. A pistol grip shotgun does not come to the shoulder the same way, and it needs practice rather than assumption.

If you shoot shotguns and not carbines, the conventional stocked Patrol will suit you better and costs less.

What the M-LOK forend and the rail change

M-LOK slots take a light directly. On a defensive shotgun a light matters more than any other accessory, and a clamped one on a magazine tube is always a compromise.

The receiver rail takes a red dot without a gunsmith, and on a shotgun a dot is genuinely quicker than a bead for a shooter who has not put in the hours on bead sighting.

The gas action bleeds off part of the shot’s energy to work the bolt, and what it bleeds off does not reach your shoulder. Against a pump that difference is obvious by the third round.

Seven plus one means the magazine tube runs nearly to the muzzle, so the gun is as compact as that capacity allows.

Shotshell dimensions and pressures are standardized by SAAMI, and the 3 inch chamber accepts both 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. Because the barrel is 19.10 inches and the stock is fixed, this is an ordinary shotgun under federal law and needs no special paperwork. For defensive use we stock nine pellet 00 buckshot, and 2 3/4 inch target loads are the inexpensive way to practise; reduced recoil and mini shells are a poor match for a gas gun.

Pattern whichever defensive load you intend to keep in the gun at the distances inside your own home. The conventional stocked versions are the black Patrol and the gray Patrol, and the faster cycling alternative is the 1301 Tactical Mod 2. Every long gun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.

Why it is worth considering

  • A pistol grip, so the trigger hand sits where a carbine shooter expects it.
  • A fixed chisel stock with nothing to loosen, latch or deploy wrong.
  • M-LOK on the forend, so a light mounts without a barrel clamp.
  • A receiver rail for a red dot, fitted at the factory.
  • A gas action, which takes the sting out of buckshot in a way a pump does not.

Who it suits

This suits a shooter who runs an AR and wants their shotgun to feel like one, and who will practise mounting it. A shooter who grew up on conventional shotgun stocks will be faster with the standard Patrol and should buy that instead. Every long gun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.
