Description
The Beretta 92SB 50th Anniversary reproduction in 9mm, part number J92SB15, marks fifty years since the 92 first appeared. It is a faithful rebuild of the 92SB, the variant that set the pattern every 92 since has followed, presented in a commemorative case. The slide is polished blued and engraved, the frame is polished anodised aluminium with a beavertail, the barrel is 4.90 inches, and the grips are black G10. Capacity is fifteen plus one. The 92SB matters because of what it fixed.
The original 92 put the safety on the frame and the magazine release at the heel of the grip. The 92SB moved the release to a button behind the trigger guard, put the safety and decocker on the slide, and added a firing pin block. Every 92 built since has kept that layout.
What you are actually buying
This is a reproduction rather than a refinished original, so it has modern metallurgy and modern tolerances under a period correct exterior. It is meant to be shot, not just looked at.
The polished blue and the engraving are the point. Beretta does not do this finish on production 92s, and a polished blued slide looks very different in the hand to a Bruniton one.
G10 grip panels rather than the plastic of the period. They are thinner, grippier, and they will not shrink or crack the way old panels do.
It comes in a commemorative presentation case with a coin and documentation, which matters if the gun is going into a collection rather than a holster.
Why the Beretta 92SB layout stuck
Moving the magazine release from the heel to a button behind the trigger guard is the single change that made the 92 usable at speed. A heel release requires two hands; a button does not.
Putting the safety and decocker on the slide let the shooter lower the hammer safely without touching the trigger, which is what the military specification asked for.
The firing pin block is why the gun can be carried hammer down on a loaded chamber without argument.
Everything else is the 92 you already know: open slide, falling locking block, and a barrel that stays level through the cycle.

Cartridge dimensions and pressures are standardized by SAAMI. For practice we stock 115 grain 9mm brass cased full metal jacket, which is the load most 92s are happiest on, and standard 92 pattern magazines fit it. A polished blued finish marks more easily than Bruniton, so if this gun is going to be carried or holstered regularly, wipe it down after handling. Shooters who want a working 92 rather than a commemorative should compare the 92FS, the M9A1 or the 92GTS. Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.
Why it is worth considering
- A polished blued and engraved slide, a finish Beretta does not put on production guns.
- A faithful 92SB layout with modern metallurgy underneath it.
- G10 grip panels rather than period plastic.
- Fifteen plus one and standard 92 magazine compatibility.
- A commemorative presentation case, which matters if it is going into a collection.
Who it suits
This suits a collector, or a 92 owner who wants one that looks like the gun the family started with. It is a poor choice as a holster gun, because the polished finish will show every mark. Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.
