Description
The Beretta 92GTS in 9mm, part number J92XFMSDA20, is the most thoroughly revised 92 Beretta has built. The slide is optic ready and Cerakoted, the frame is aluminium with a beavertail and a Picatinny rail, the controls are fully ambidextrous, and the barrel is 4.70 inches of black Inox steel. Capacity here is ten plus one, which is the configuration for shooters in states that cap magazines. The gun takes standard 92 magazines, so nothing you already own becomes obsolete. The changes go further than the outside suggests.
The trigger group, the safety and the slide stop are all new, and the result is a 92 that answers the criticisms the old one collected over forty years.
What the GTS actually changed
The slide is cut for a micro red dot at the factory with an adapter plate system, which is the single biggest gap the old 92 had against modern competition.
Every control is ambidextrous, not just the safety. Slide stop and magazine release included, which means a left handed shooter runs the gun the same way a right handed one does.
The trigger is the most obvious change in the hand. Beretta reworked the geometry and the reset, and the difference from a standard 92FS double action pull is immediately apparent.
It still takes standard 92 magazines. A shooter who already owns 92s does not start over.
Why the Beretta 92GTS still feels like a 92
The open slide is unchanged. The top of the slide is cut away entirely, so a spent case has nowhere to catch and a fresh round has a clear path into the chamber.
The locking block still falls rather than the barrel tilting, so the barrel stays level through the cycle, which is the reason the 92 shoots as flat as it does.
The frame keeps the beavertail and the rail from the M9A1, so a light mounts directly and a high grip does not earn hammer bite.
The 4.70 inch barrel is slightly shorter than a full size 92FS but long enough that the sight radius and the muzzle weight both still work in your favour.

Cartridge dimensions and pressures are standardized by SAAMI. For practice we stock 115 grain 9mm brass cased full metal jacket, which is the load most 92s are happiest on. Because the gun takes standard 92 magazines, a 30 round magazine fits it as well as it fits the older guns. Fit a light before you buy a holster, since a railed 92 with a light on it will not go into a standard 92 holster.
Shooters who want the classic gun should compare the 92FS, the railed service build is the M9A1, and the stainless guns are the 92FS Inox and Brigadier Inox. Check your own state and local rules before ordering, since capacity limits vary and we cannot advise on them. Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.
Why it is worth considering
- A factory optic cut, which is the one thing the old 92 could not offer.
- Fully ambidextrous controls, not just an ambidextrous safety.
- A reworked trigger, which is the change you feel first.
- Standard 92 magazine compatibility, so an existing collection still works.
- A beavertail frame and a Picatinny rail carried over from the M9A1.
Who it suits
This suits a shooter who wants the 92 action with a red dot on top and modern controls, and a left handed shooter more than almost any other 92. Buyers who want the classic gun, or the lowest price, should look at the 92FS instead. Every handgun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.
