Description

The Beretta 1301 Tactical in flat dark earth, part number SPEC0760A, is a special production run of Beretta’s defensive autoloader finished in FDE from the recoil pad to the muzzle. The barrel measures 18.5 inches, the chamber is 3 inches, and the magazine tube holds five with one chambered. Where the chisel stock and pistol grip builds shorten the gun, this one wears a full length synthetic stock with a 14.25 inch length of pull. That puts overall length at 41.5 inches and weight at 7.1 pounds.

The forend is M-LOK and the receiver carries a Picatinny rail, so a light and an optic both mount without adapters. It leaves the factory with an Improved Cylinder Optima-HP choke tube and a fiber optic front sight.

What the full length stock changes

A 14.25 inch length of pull is the dimension most field shotguns use, so anyone who already shoots a hunting autoloader will mount this gun without relearning a thing.

The longer stock also moves the shooter’s face back from the receiver, which suits taller shooters better than the 13 inch defensive stocks do.

The tradeoff is overall length. At 41.5 inches this is a full size shotgun, and the chisel stock or folding builds are the better answer when storage space or vehicle carry is the priority.

Five plus one keeps weight off the muzzle and keeps the gun workable in states that cap shotgun capacity.

Why the Beretta 1301 Tactical still sets the pace

The Blink gas system cycles faster than most shooters can run the trigger, and the rotating bolt head locks into a barrel extension rather than into the receiver itself.

The receiver rail is fitted at the factory, so a red dot mounts without drilling, and the fiber optic front sight stays visible underneath a low mounted optic.

The M-LOK forend accepts a weapon light directly, which matters more on a defensive shotgun than almost any other accessory you can bolt on.

The flat dark earth finish covers barrel, receiver and furniture alike. It is a corrosion barrier first and an easy way to tell this gun apart from a black stablemate second.

Shotshell dimensions and pressures are standardized by SAAMI, and the 3 inch chamber accepts both 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. With an 18.5 inch barrel and a 41.5 inch overall length this is an ordinary shotgun under federal law, so no special paperwork applies. For defensive use we stock nine pellet 00 buckshot, and standard 2 3/4 inch 1 1/8 ounce target loads cycle reliably for practice, while reduced recoil and mini shells are a poor match for a gas gun.

Pattern whichever defensive load you intend to rely on at the distances inside your own home. Buyers who want a shorter gun should compare the fixed chisel stock build or the folding stock build, and the gray pistol grip five round build keeps the same capacity in a shorter package. Hunters are better served by the A300 Ultima.

Why it is worth considering

  • A finish you will not confuse with anything else in the safe.
  • The Blink action, still the fastest cycling autoloader Beretta builds.
  • A factory receiver rail and an M-LOK forend, so optic and light both mount without adapters.
  • A field length stock, which suits shooters who find the short defensive stocks cramped.
  • Five plus one, which keeps the gun workable where capacity is capped.

Who it suits

This suits a buyer who wants the 1301 action and a conventional shotgun stock rather than a shortened defensive one, and who would rather the gun not look like every other black autoloader. It is a poor fit for anyone who needs the shortest possible package, and hunters will be happier with the A300 Ultima. Every long gun we sell ships to a licensed FFL for transfer.

Setting one up

Most buyers do three things to a 1301 before they trust it: mount a light, mount a red dot, and pattern a defensive load. The M-LOK forend handles the first without a barrel clamp, and because the slots run along the sides there is room for a pressure pad where the support hand already sits. For the optic, the factory rail is low enough that a compact enclosed dot will co-witness with the fiber optic front sight rather than burying it.

Patterning is the step people skip. Nine pellet buckshot from two different makers can spread twice as wide at fifteen yards, and the Improved Cylinder tube that ships with this gun is a middle setting rather than a specialist one. Shoot the load you intend to keep in the gun, at the longest distance inside your own home, and keep the target.
