Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 7mm Rem Mag 150gr TTSX BT is the heavier of the two standard line copper loads for the 7mm Remington Magnum, and the better of them for elk. It leaves the muzzle at roughly 3060 fps carrying about 3120 ft-lbs of energy, behind a 0.450 ballistic coefficient. It gives up only 40 fps to the 140 grain load and gains both mass and a meaningfully better BC. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 7mm Rem Mag 150gr TTSX BT Overview
The projectile is machined from a solid copper billet, so there is no lead core to shed and no jacket to separate. A polymer tip caps the hollow nose, protects it in the magazine and drives rearward on impact to start expansion immediately.
The nose opens into four sharp copper petals at roughly double the original diameter and stays attached to the shank, with weight retention close to 100 percent. Combined with 150 grains of sectional density that produces the deep straight wound channels elk hunting demands.
150 Grain TTSX Boat Tail Performance
Comparing the two standard weights is straightforward here. The 140 grain runs 3100 fps with a 0.412 ballistic coefficient; this 150 grain runs 3060 fps with 0.450. Forty feet per second is nothing, and the higher BC means this load carries more energy and drifts less at every distance past the muzzle. For elk it is the better choice.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the projectile. Those grooves reduce bore contact, lowering pressure and cutting copper fouling, which helps a long solid bullet group well out of a factory barrel.
Why Hunters Choose 7mm Remington Magnum Elk Ammo
The 7mm Remington Magnum has been the Western hunter default for sixty years. It fits a standard length magnum action, shoots flat, recoils less than a 300 magnum, and is stocked everywhere. Barrel life runs into the thousands of rounds.
Where this 7mm Remington Magnum elk ammo earns its place is on animals larger than deer. A 150 grain copper bullet retaining all of its weight will drive through a bull elk shoulder and exit, and with a 0.450 ballistic coefficient it is still doing that well past 400 yards.
If you own one 7mm Mag and hunt elk with it, this is the standard line weight to pick. If your shots regularly stretch beyond 500 yards, the 139 grain LRX in the Long Range line opens at much lower velocity and is the better tool.

Range Notes For This All Copper Big Game Bullet
An all copper big game bullet prints to a different point of impact than the lead core ammunition your rifle was probably sighted in with. Zero with this exact load, foul a clean barrel with a round or two first, then leave the scope alone.
Twist rate is not a concern. Most 7mm Remington Magnum barrels run 1 in 9 or 1 in 9.5, and both handle a 150 grain copper bullet without difficulty.
At 3060 fps the Barnes VOR-TX 7mm Rem Mag 150gr TTSX stays above reliable expansion speed past 500 yards in most barrels, and its ballistic coefficient means it arrives with more energy than the lighter load at every distance. Store the ammunition cool and dry.
