Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 30-06 Sprg 180gr TTSX BT is the heaviest of the three Barnes copper loads for the 30-06, and the one to reach for when penetration matters more than trajectory. It leaves the muzzle at roughly 2700 fps carrying about 2914 ft-lbs of energy. For moose, big elk and bear, this is the weight that has been doing the job in this cartridge for a hundred years. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 30-06 Sprg 180gr TTSX BT Overview
The projectile is machined from a solid copper billet, so there is no lead core to shed and no jacket to separate. A polymer tip caps the hollow nose, protects it under recoil in the magazine and drives rearward on impact to start expansion immediately.
The nose opens into four sharp copper petals at roughly double the original diameter and stays attached to the shank, with weight retention close to 100 percent. Combine that with 180 grains of sectional density and you get the long, straight wound channels that heavy game requires.
180 Grain TTSX Boat Tail Performance
Barnes loads three weights here and they are different tools. The 150 grain is the speed option and the 168 grain carries the highest ballistic coefficient of the three. This one trades both for mass, and on an animal that weighs half a ton that trade is usually the right one.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the projectile. Those grooves reduce bore contact, lowering pressure and cutting copper fouling, which helps a long solid bullet group well out of an ordinary hunting rifle.
Why Hunters Choose 30-06 Springfield Moose Ammo
The 30-06 Springfield with a 180 grain bullet has probably taken more elk and moose than any other combination in North America. It fits a standard long action, ammunition is available everywhere, recoil is firm but far from punishing, and barrel life is effectively unlimited for a hunter.
What this 30-06 Springfield moose ammo changes is the bullet rather than the cartridge. A 180 grain lead core soft point can still shed a third of its weight on a heavy shoulder. A monolithic copper bullet keeps essentially all of it, and on a bull moose quartering away that difference decides whether you reach the far lung.
If you hunt elk, moose or big bear with a 30-06 and want one load, this is it. If most of your shooting is deer inside 300 yards, the lighter 150 or 168 grain loads shoot flatter and are plenty of bullet.

Range Notes For This All Copper Big Game Bullet
An all copper big game bullet prints to a different point of impact than the lead core ammunition your rifle was probably sighted in with. Zero with this exact load, foul a clean barrel with a round or two first, then leave the scope alone.
Twist rate is not a concern. Every 30-06 barrel runs 1 in 10, which stabilizes a 180 grain copper bullet without any trouble.
At 2700 fps the Barnes VOR-TX 30-06 Sprg 180gr TTSX starts slower than the lighter weights, so expansion range is shorter. Reliable opening runs to roughly 400 yards in most barrels, which comfortably covers the distances at which anyone should be shooting at a moose. Store the ammunition cool and dry.
Lead Free Deep Penetration Ammunition Availability
Moose, elk and bear hunters running a standard 30-06, hunters who value penetration over trajectory, and anyone in a lead free required area will get the most from this lead free deep penetration ammunition. Full factory ballistics are published by Barnes Bullets.
