Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 30-06 Sprg 150gr TTSX BT is the fastest and flattest of the three Barnes copper loads for the 30-06. It leaves the muzzle at roughly 3000 fps carrying about 2998 ft-lbs of energy, behind a 0.44 ballistic coefficient. If you hunt open country and want the flattest trajectory the old cartridge will give you, this is the weight to pick. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 30-06 Sprg 150gr TTSX BT Overview
The projectile is machined from a solid copper billet, so there is no lead core to shed and no jacket to separate from it. A polymer tip caps the hollow nose, protects it in the magazine and drives rearward on impact to begin expansion immediately.
The nose opens into four sharp copper petals at roughly double the original diameter and stays attached to the shank, with weight retention close to 100 percent. That is what makes a light 30 caliber bullet behave like a heavier one on game.
150 Grain TTSX Boat Tail Performance
Barnes loads three weights in this cartridge and they are genuinely different tools. The 150 grain TTSX boat tail is the speed option: flattest trajectory, least drop to remember, and the most forgiving on a misjudged range. The 168 grain is the balanced middle, and the 180 grain is the penetration choice for elk and moose.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the projectile. Those grooves reduce bore contact, which lowers pressure, cuts copper fouling and helps the load shoot tight groups out of an ordinary hunting rifle.
Why Hunters Choose 30-06 Springfield Hunting Ammo
The 30-06 Springfield has been the American standard since 1906 and nothing has displaced it. It handles everything from antelope to moose, rifles chambered for it are everywhere, recoil is manageable, and barrel life runs into the thousands of rounds. No magnum offers a meaningfully better balance for general hunting.
What this load does is modernize the bullet without touching anything else. The case, the rifle and the recoil stay exactly as they were; only the terminal performance improves, and a monolithic copper bullet at 3000 fps is a considerable improvement on a 1960s cup and core design.
It is also the practical answer for hunters in lead free required areas who own a 30-06 and have no interest in buying a new rifle to keep hunting.

Range Notes For This Polymer Tipped Copper Bullet
An all copper bullet prints to a different point of impact than the lead core ammunition your rifle was probably sighted in with. Zero with this exact load, foul a clean barrel with a round or two first, then leave the scope alone.
Twist rate is not a concern. Every 30-06 barrel runs 1 in 10, which stabilizes a 150 grain copper bullet easily.
At 3000 fps the Barnes VOR-TX 30-06 Sprg 150gr TTSX stays above reliable expansion speed past 400 yards in most barrels. If you expect longer shots, the heavier 168 grain load holds velocity better, and the Long Range 175 grain LRX better still. Store the ammunition cool and dry.
