Anschutz 1761 HB MSR 22LR Rifle

Description

Anschutz 1761 HB MSR: Precision Engineered for Competitive 22LR Shooting

The Anschutz 1761 HB MSR is a bolt-action rimfire rifle built for shooters who demand match-grade consistency without stepping up to a full competition chassis. Chambered in 22 Long Rifle, this German-made rifle pairs a heavy barrel profile with a refined two-stage trigger to deliver the kind of repeatable accuracy that silhouette and small-bore shooters rely on. Anschutz has spent decades refining its bolt-action platforms for Olympic and national-level competition, and that engineering heritage carries directly into the 1761 HB MSR’s action, bedding, and barrel work. Every component is selected to reduce shot-to-shot variation, from the fitted receiver to the carefully finished walnut stock.

What sets this rifle apart from typical sporting-grade 22LR bolt guns is the attention paid to details that most manufacturers skip entirely. The heavy barrel resists the whip and harmonic shift that thinner profiles introduce as they warm up during a long string of fire, keeping point of impact stable session after session. The two-stage trigger lets the shooter take up initial slack smoothly before a crisp, predictable break, which matters enormously at the extended ranges where rimfire silhouette and precision disciplines are contested. Combined with a 1:16.5″ twist rate tuned for a wide range of 22LR match and standard-velocity loads, the rifle is genuinely versatile across ammunition types.

Key Features and Benefits

The heavy barrel on the Anschutz 1761 HB MSR is more than a cosmetic upgrade over standard-profile rimfire barrels. Additional mass out at the muzzle dampens vibration and slows the rate of heat buildup, so groups stay tight even after repeated strings of fire at the range. Shooters moving up from lighter sporter-style 22LR rifles typically notice the difference immediately in reduced vertical stringing, especially when shooting from supported positions. The bluing on the metal surfaces is finished to a deep, even luster that also provides solid corrosion resistance for rifles that see regular range use across every season.

The two-stage light trigger is tuned specifically for the discipline this rifle is built to serve. Rather than a single, unpredictable break, the shooter feels a distinct take-up stage before a clean, consistent let-off, which removes much of the guesswork from trigger control under time pressure. This is the same philosophy Anschutz applies to its dedicated target rifles, scaled into a package that still functions well as a general-purpose precision 22LR rifle. The detachable five-round magazine keeps the action fed without interrupting the shooter’s position or natural point of aim between strings of fire.

The silhouette-pattern walnut stock rounds out the package with genuine checkering at the grip and forend for a secure hold in all weather conditions. Wood construction offers a warmth and feel that synthetic stocks can’t replicate, while still providing the rigidity needed to support a heavy barrel without flexing under recoil. At 8.8 pounds with a 21.4″ barrel and a 37.4″ overall length, the rifle carries enough weight to stay settled on target while remaining practical to carry and handle during a normal range session or an informal club competition day out.

Weighing 8.8 pounds and measuring 37.4 inches overall, the Anschutz 1761 HB MSR balances heft with a manageable footprint for range use, silhouette matches, and organized 22LR competition. The blued metal finish and walnut stock combination gives the rifle a classic appearance while the underlying specifications, heavy barrel, two-stage trigger, and 1:16.5″ twist, are all chosen for measurable accuracy gains rather than looks alone, making the rifle equally at home on a bench or in a standing match position.

Who It Is For

This rifle suits shooters who have outgrown entry-level 22LR bolt guns and want a platform built specifically around accuracy rather than general utility. Silhouette competitors, small-bore target shooters, and disciplined plinkers who track their groups will get the most from the heavy barrel and two-stage trigger combination. It also makes a strong choice for a shooter’s first serious step into precision rimfire before committing to a full-race chassis rifle, since the fundamentals, trigger control, barrel harmonics, and stock ergonomics translate directly to more advanced Anschutz platforms later on.
