Anschutz 1761 D HB 22 LR 18″ Threaded Heavy Barrel — Superb Walnut Classic

Description

The Anschutz 1761 D HB 22 LR is the .22 Long Rifle version of the company’s sporting bolt action, with an 18-inch threaded heavy barrel, a blued finish and a checkered walnut classic stock. Anschutz built its name on match rifles, and the 1761 is the hunting and field action that grew out of that work rather than a budget rimfire wearing a famous badge.

Threaded Heavy Barrel

18-inch heavy barrel threaded 1/2×28, the standard American pitch for rimfire muzzle devices.

Blued steel throughout, in the traditional style rather than a modern coating.

The heavy profile is why the Anschutz 1761 D HB 22 LR holds point of impact through a long string and damps the small vibrations that move a light barrel around.

Weight 6.17 pounds, which is substantial for a rimfire and steadies the hold accordingly.

Trigger, Stock and Magazine

Anschutz 5061 single stage trigger, the D in the model designation.

Checkered walnut in the classic pattern, with a straight comb that suits low scope rings.

Five-round detachable magazine.

No iron sights are fitted; the receiver is dovetailed for scope mounts.

Factory SKU 019309, formerly 015148.

.22 LR is where a barrel of this quality shows itself most clearly, because the cartridge is inherently accurate but unforgiving of a mediocre bore. Subsonic match ammunition through an 18-inch heavy barrel will group tighter than most shooters can hold, and the threaded muzzle makes it a natural candidate for suppressed shooting, where .22 LR is at its quietest. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items, so a suppressor would need to be sourced separately and cleared through ATF approval before it could be mounted.

Why it is worth considering

• German-built on an action derived from match rifle experience.
• 18-inch threaded heavy barrel in blued steel.
• Anschutz 5061 single stage trigger.
• Checkered walnut classic stock rather than polymer.
• Five-round detachable magazine.

Who it suits

Serious rimfire shooters, small-game hunters and anyone building toward a suppressed .22 setup are the natural buyers. The Anschutz 1761 D HB 22 LR rewards good ammunition and a good scope; both are worth budgeting for alongside the rifle, because neither the barrel nor the trigger will be the limiting factor.

Choosing Within the 1761 Line

Anschutz builds the 1761 in .22 LR, .22 WMR and .17 HMR, in several barrel lengths and with threaded or plain muzzles. If a flatter trajectory matters more than quiet, the 18-inch threaded .17 HMR is the same rifle in the faster chambering, and the 20-inch .17 HMR trades threads for barrel length. Ammunition matters more in .22 LR than in almost any other cartridge. Rifles develop preferences, sometimes strong ones, and the only way to find them is to buy several brands of match and standard-velocity ammunition and test them at 50 yards from a rest. A rifle at this level will reward that afternoon more than a scope upgrade would. All firearm orders ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer, and MAG5 Firearms will coordinate the paperwork with the dealer of your choice.

Because no sights are fitted, budget for a scope and rings. A 4-12x or 6-18x with parallax adjustable down to 25 or 50 yards suits rimfire distances, and low rings match the straight comb of the classic stock.
