Description

Aguila High Velocity 12ga 6 Shot is a proper upland game load: a full 1-1/4 ounce charge of number 6 lead moving at 1,330 fps. That is a heavy payload driven fast, which is the combination pheasant and rabbit hunting actually calls for and which a lot of cheaper field loads quietly skip.
What Aguila High Velocity 12ga 6 Shot Is Built For
Number 6 is the traditional all-round upland size. It carries enough individual pellet weight to break wing bones on a rising rooster at forty yards while still putting enough pellets in the pattern to make hits likely. Smaller shot patterns denser but runs out of energy; larger shot hits harder but leaves gaps a bird can fly through.
The 1-1/4 ounce charge is what separates this from a promotional field load. Many budget 12 gauge shells carry an ounce or 1-1/8 ounces; going to 1-1/4 puts meaningfully more pellets in the air, which matters at the far end of a flush.
Driving that payload at 1,330 fps shortens lead and flattens trajectory. Aguila High Velocity 12ga 6 Shot is loaded in Cuernavaca, Mexico by Industrias Tecnos on a plastic hull with a standard 209 primer.
Where to Use It
Pheasant is the obvious application, along with rabbit, squirrel, late-season dove and chukar. Number 6 in a heavy fast load is also a reasonable choice for wild turkey at close range in jurisdictions that allow lead, although dedicated turkey loads with heavier shot and tighter patterns are better for that job.
Recoil is honest. A 1-1/4 ounce charge at 1,330 fps out of a light upland gun is not gentle, and over a long walk-up day it is noticeable. That is the price of the payload, and most upland hunters accept it because the shots come in ones and twos rather than in hundreds.
Aguila High Velocity 12ga 6 Shot is a lead load, so check your local regulations. Lead shot is prohibited for waterfowl nationwide and for upland hunting on many state and federal properties.

Field Notes
Pattern it before the season. Shot size, choke and gun interact more than most hunters expect, and a modified choke that throws a beautiful pattern with 7.5 may open up or blow out with a fast 1-1/4 ounce charge of 6. Thirty rounds at a pattern board tells you more than any amount of reading.
Match the choke to the cover. Improved cylinder for tight early-season birds over a dog, modified or full for late-season roosters flushing wild at forty yards.
Lead shot means the usual handling sense: wash hands after a day afield, and keep it out of any area where non-toxic shot is required.
Shooting other Aguila shotshells? The line includes a 12ga 1-1/8 oz load, and for off-season practice and safe hammer release, 12 gauge snap caps are worth having. Published specifications come from Aguila Ammunition.
For pheasant, rabbit and late-season upland hunting, Aguila High Velocity 12ga 6 Shot gives you a heavy, fast payload at a price that makes sense by the case. MAG5 Firearms stocks it as manufacturer item 1CHB1206.
