Description

Aguila 12ga 1-1/8 oz 8 Shot is the everyday 12 gauge shell, sold here by the case. One and one-eighth ounces of number 8 lead at 1,200 fps is the standard recipe for dove, quail, clays and general knockabout shooting, and buying it ten boxes at a time is how anyone who shoots regularly should be buying it.
What Aguila 12ga 1-1/8 oz 8 Shot Is
This is the standard velocity load rather than the high velocity one. At 1,200 fps it is noticeably gentler on the shoulder than the 1,330 fps field loads, which matters when you are shooting a box of clays rather than taking three shots at a flushing rooster.
Number 8 is the small-bird and clays size. Plenty of pellets in the pattern, enough energy for dove, quail and woodcock inside forty yards, and the traditional choice for skeet and closer sporting clays presentations. For pheasant or rabbit, step up to 6.
Aguila 12ga 1-1/8 oz 8 Shot is loaded by Industrias Tecnos in Cuernavaca, Mexico on a plastic hull with a 209 primer. The 1-1/8 ounce charge is also the legal maximum for most registered clays competition, which makes it a sensible default.
Why Buy It by the Case
Shotshells are a consumable in a way rifle ammunition is not. A morning of dove shooting can be four boxes, and a round of skeet is a box on its own. Buying Aguila 12ga 1-1/8 oz 8 Shot as a case lot of ten boxes lowers the cost per shell and means you stop making trips.
Case lots also give you lot consistency. Every shell in a case comes from the same production run, so the pattern you develop on the board at the start of the season is the pattern you get in the field all the way through it.

Field Notes
Pattern before the season. Shot size, choke and gun interact more than people expect, and thirty rounds at a pattern board tells you more than any amount of reading. Improved cylinder or skeet choke usually suits number 8 at the distances it is good for.
Lead shot means checking your regulations. It is prohibited for waterfowl nationwide and on many state and federal upland properties, so confirm before you go.
Note the packaging change. Aguila have run this load under both a grey Standard Velocity Birdshot box and a red Game Load box; the specification is the same and you may receive either depending on the production run.
Need a heavier, faster load for pheasant? Aguila High Velocity 12ga 6 Shot steps up to 1-1/4 ounces at 1,330 fps. For safe hammer release and dry practice, 12 gauge snap caps are worth having in the bag. Published specifications come from Aguila Ammunition.
For dove season, clays practice and anyone who burns through 12 gauge in volume, Aguila 12ga 1-1/8 oz 8 Shot by the case is the sensible way to buy it. MAG5 Firearms stocks it as manufacturer item 1CHB1218.
