Description

A-Zoom 12 Gauge Snap Caps are solid aluminum dummy shells, five to a pack in blue hard anodize. Shotguns are hard on firing pins and harder on plastic dummies, which is why a machined aluminum shell that survives thousands of cycles makes more sense than a bag of plastic hulls.
How A-Zoom 12 Gauge Snap Caps Are Built
Each shell is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to 12 gauge dimensions and hard anodized. There is no plastic hull and no crimped end to split, so nothing swells, deforms or leaves a torn body in the chamber after a few hundred cycles through a pump gun.
The rim end carries a proprietary polymer cushion in place of a primer. A-Zoom rates it beyond three thousand strikes. On a shotgun with a heavy hammer and a long pin, that cushion is doing real work every time you drop the hammer to release the action.
The blue anodizing is a deliberate safety cue. A-Zoom 12 Gauge Snap Caps look nothing like a loaded shell at any distance, which matters when you are practicing loading drills in a room where live buckshot also lives.
What Five Shells Are Actually For
Five is the working number for a shotgun. Most pump and semi-auto tube magazines hold four or five, so a five pack fills the gun and lets you run a full load, cycle and unload sequence rather than checking a single feed. For anyone drilling shell-to-shell reloads, port loading or a select slug drill, that is the whole exercise.
They are equally useful for setup work. Confirming that a new shell carrier, magazine extension or lifter actually cycles is faster and quieter with A-Zoom 12 Gauge Snap Caps than with live shells, and it puts nothing downrange while you are doing it.
Trap and skeet shooters use them for a different reason entirely. Practicing mount and swing with an inert shell in the chamber lets you work the trigger through the full motion instead of stopping short, and the gun handles at its normal weight rather than empty.

Field Notes
Releasing the action on a snap cap is the classic reason shotgun owners buy these. Storing a pump or an over-under with the hammers down on an empty chamber batters the pins; dropping them on A-Zoom 12 Gauge Snap Caps does not.
Break-action guns benefit most. Doubles and over-unders often use rebounding hammers and slender firing pins that genuinely do break from repeated dry fire, and a pair of snap caps solves that permanently.
The polymer cushion wears. When the face is deeply cratered and no longer springs back, retire that shell rather than continuing to hammer a dead cushion.
One practical note on tube magazines: aluminum shells are slicker than plastic hulls, so they load and unload a little faster than live ammunition does. Do not read that as a sign your gun is running better than it is when you switch back to shells.
Shooting a smaller bore as well? The line covers 410 bore and 10 gauge in matching aluminum. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For clays practice, loading drills or simply letting the hammers down safely, A-Zoom 12 Gauge Snap Caps are the sensible buy. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA12311 in the five pack.
