AGM NVG-40 3AW1 Night Vision Binocular Overview
Dual-tube goggles let both eyes see through an intensifier, which improves depth perception compared with a single monocular. Many users find white phosphor gives better contrast and a more natural look, especially for identifying shapes and details. Auto-gating protects the tube and keeps the image usable when light levels change suddenly, such as passing headlights or muzzle flash. AGM lists resolution at 64 to 72 line pairs per millimeter, and Level 1 tubes are described as having practically no visible spots in the central zone.
Mounting Options
An NVG interface shoe comes preinstalled for standard dovetail headset and helmet mounts, and a bayonet or horn interface shoe is included for mounts of that type and for connecting a battery pack. Simple controls and LED indicators show low battery, infrared on and excessive light. A bright light cut-off helps protect the tubes from damage in strong light.
Night Vision Care
Keep the lens caps on in daylight, never point the device at bright light sources, and store it dry with the battery removed. Use a soft lens brush and approved cleaning cloth on the optics. Although white phosphor Gen 3 tubes are durable, they are the most expensive part of the system and deserve careful handling.
Honest Limitations
Gen 3 dual-tube systems are a significant investment, and a helmet or head mount is sold separately. At 1x, the goggle is for navigation and observation, not long-range identification. Night vision image intensifiers are export-controlled items; they may not be exported without proper authorization. AGM covers this unit with a limited three-year warranty.
