Description

A-Zoom 38 Special Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds in 38 Special, six to a pack. Six fills a cylinder, which is the number that turns revolver dry fire into a real load, press and eject drill rather than a trigger exercise.
How A-Zoom 38 Special Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to the exact dimensions of a loaded cartridge and hard anodized. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body. Nothing swells in a chamber and nothing gets left behind when you punch the ejector rod.
The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion in place of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. Plenty of 38 Special revolvers predate transfer bars and hammer blocks, and on those guns dry firing empty is exactly what breaks a firing pin.
Because A-Zoom 38 Special Snap Caps are dimensionally correct, they drop from a speed loader and eject from a cylinder exactly like live ammunition, which is what makes the practice worth doing at all.
Why a Full Cylinder Matters
Revolver skill is cylinder skill. Loading six from a speed loader or a speed strip, closing the crane, running six double action pulls and then ejecting the whole cylinder is one continuous drill and it takes six rounds to run.
38 Special is also the caliber most new revolver shooters start on, and the double action press is the hardest thing about it. Building that press costs nothing when the cylinder is full of A-Zoom 38 Special Snap Caps and everything when you are paying for ammunition.

Field Notes
Older guns are the strongest argument. A pre-war Smith and Wesson or an early Colt in 38 Special is not a gun you want to be sourcing a firing pin for, and snap caps cost almost nothing by comparison.
Timing and carry-up checks are the technical use. Cycling a loaded cylinder slowly by hand shows whether each chamber is locking up in line with the barrel under realistic weight rather than empty.
The polymer cushion is a consumable. When the face is deeply cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
They also make a tidy storage solution. A cylinder of obviously inert dummies keeps a carry revolver visibly unloaded to anyone who opens it, while still letting you check function without hunting for something to put in the chambers.
Want two cylinders for reload practice? The line is stocked as A-Zoom 38 Special Blue Snap Caps in a twelve pack, and 357 Magnum is available too. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For anyone who carries a snub nose or is learning the double action press, A-Zoom 38 Special Snap Caps are the obvious buy. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA16118 in the six pack.
