Description
The Taurus Tracker 627 is the seven-shot 357 in the Taurus range, catalogued as 2-627069. Medium frame, matte stainless throughout, a 6.50-inch ported barrel with an adjustable rear sight, and a cylinder that holds seven rounds of 357 Magnum or 38 Special +P rather than the usual six.
Two features set this one apart from every other 357 we stock. The seventh chamber is the obvious one. The other is the porting: slots cut through the top of the barrel that vent gas upward and hold the muzzle down under recoil, which on a full-power magnum load makes a very noticeable difference to how quickly the sights come back.
MAG5 Firearms has the Taurus Tracker 627 in stock. Handguns ship to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the transfer with your dealer.
Seven rounds, six and a half inches, ported
- Seven rounds of 357 Magnum, which is one more than almost anything else on a medium frame.
- A 6.50-inch barrel burns the powder charge properly, so the Taurus Tracker 627 delivers what the cartridge is actually capable of.
- Factory porting vents gas upward and reduces muzzle rise, at the cost of more noise and flash beside the shooter.
- An adjustable rear sight, so the gun can be zeroed to a specific load rather than to whatever the factory tested.
- A long sight radius, which is the single biggest factor in shooting a revolver accurately.

Build, grip and safety
- Matte stainless barrel, cylinder and frame, with no applied finish to wear through.
- A ribbed rubber grip with a soft insert down the backstrap, which is where the recoil of a magnum load actually lands.
- Exposed hammer, so the Taurus Tracker 627 can be cocked for a light single-action press on a deliberate shot.
- Transfer bar safety blocks the firing pin mechanically until the trigger is fully pressed.
- Also chambers 38 Special +P, so practice can be done at a fraction of magnum prices.

Both cartridges are loaded to the dimensional and pressure standards published by SAAMI, and the 38 Special case is shorter, so it drops into a 357 chamber with no adapter. One point about porting worth knowing before you buy: a ported barrel is loud, and shooting one indoors or from a confined position is noticeably harder on the ears than an unported gun. Wear proper protection. We stock CCI Blazer Brass 357 Magnum 158gr, the Barnes VOR-TX 357 Magnum and 38 Special practice ammunition.
For a shorter four-inch service revolver, the Taurus Model 65 holds six. For something carryable, the 605 is a five-shot snub. Browse the rest of our revolvers too.
Why the Tracker 627 earns its place
- The Taurus Tracker 627 carries seven rounds where almost every competitor on a medium frame carries six.
- A 6.50-inch barrel and an adjustable sight make it a genuinely accurate revolver rather than a defensive one.
- Porting turns full-power magnum loads into something you can shoot a box of in one session.
- Stainless construction suits a revolver that will be carried in the field rather than under a coat.
- Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the original buyer.
This is a hunting and field revolver rather than a carry gun. The Taurus Tracker 627 suits handgun hunting at sensible ranges, trail carry where a long sight radius and full magnum velocity matter, and range shooters who want to wring accuracy out of a wheelgun. If you intend to shoot it indoors, be aware the porting makes it loud; outdoors it is simply pleasant.
