Description

The Savage Impulse Hog Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor is the only American-made straight-pull bolt action in mass production, and the Hog Hunter is the version built for close, fast work. A 20-inch heavy threaded barrel, a 20 MOA Picatinny rail and an OD green AccuStock make it a rifle for hunting where shots come quickly and often.
On the Savage Impulse Hog Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor, straight-pull means exactly that: pull the bolt handle straight back and push it straight forward. There is no lifting or rotating, which cuts a full motion out of every cycle and lets you stay on the scope between shots.
Savage Impulse Hog Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor Action
The Impulse uses a Hexlock system, in which six hardened bearings expand into a recess in the barrel extension as the bolt closes. Chamber pressure drives them harder into lockup, so the action cannot open under pressure, and it releases cleanly the moment pressure drops.
The bolt handle is ambidextrous and can be repositioned by the owner, which is a genuine advantage for left-handed shooters and for anyone who wants the handle closer or farther from the trigger. Very few factory rifles offer that.
Barrel, Rail and Stock
The 20-inch barrel is a heavy contour in matte black carbon steel, threaded 5/8×24 for a brake or suppressor. Twenty inches is short enough to swing in thick cover, and the heavy profile helps the rifle stay steady through a fast string of shots.
The aluminum receiver ships with a one-piece 20 MOA Picatinny rail already mounted, so nothing needs to be bought or fitted before scoping it. The AccuStock rail beds the action along its full length, and AccuFit spacers adjust length of pull from 12.75 to 13.75 inches with comb risers included.

Why a Straight-Pull for Hogs
Hog hunting, which the Savage Impulse Hog Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor is named for, is one of the few disciplines where follow-up shots are routine rather than exceptional. Groups scatter, and a shooter who can cycle without breaking cheek weld gets second and third opportunities that a conventional bolt gun gives away.
The straight-pull also keeps your eye in the scope. On a turning bolt you drop the rifle slightly to lift the handle; the Impulse does not require that, so the sight picture stays put and you can watch your hit.
Why Buyers Choose It
Straight-pull rifles have long been a European specialty at European prices. The Impulse brought the concept to a mainstream American price with Savage’s AccuTrigger and AccuFit systems attached, which is why it found an audience quickly.
The included 20 MOA rail is worth noting as well. It is the correct base for a rifle intended to shoot at distance, and buying one separately typically costs eighty to a hundred dollars.
Who Should Buy It
The Savage Impulse Hog Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor suits the hog hunter working over bait or thermal, the predator hunter who wants fast follow-ups on a called-in group, and anyone curious about a straight-pull action who does not want to pay European custom prices to try one.
