Description

A-Zoom 40 S&W Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds in 40 S&W, five to a pack. The forty has a sharper recoil impulse than nine millimeter for the same size gun, which makes it a cartridge where anticipation creeps in quietly and dry practice is the cure.
How A-Zoom 40 S&W Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to the exact dimensions of a loaded cartridge and hard anodized. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body, so nothing can shear off and jam a feed ramp or a barrel lockup.
The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. It decelerates the firing pin much as a real primer would rather than letting it stop hard against the breech face.
Because A-Zoom 40 S&W Snap Caps match loaded cartridge dimensions, they feed, chamber and extract exactly like live ammunition, which is the whole requirement for a function check to mean anything.
Where Five Rounds Earn Their Keep
The ball and dummy drill is the main event. Mixing A-Zoom 40 S&W Snap Caps randomly into a magazine of live ammunition exposes a flinch immediately, and the forty produces enough recoil that plenty of otherwise good shooters have one without knowing it.
Conversion barrels are the other use. Plenty of 40 caliber pistols get run with 9mm or 357 SIG conversion barrels, and confirming that the correct barrel, magazine and extractor combination actually feeds and holds a round is a bench check worth doing with inert ammunition.
Magazine sorting deserves a mention too. Plenty of 40 caliber duty pistols are shooting on magazines that have been loaded and stored for years, and hand cycling dummies through each one is the fastest way to find the one with tired feed lips before it matters.

Field Notes
Malfunction clearance is worth rehearsing. Loading a dummy behind a live round is how a failure to fire drill gets practised realistically, and it is the only safe way to make the drill feel like the real thing.
Storing a pistol with the striker or hammer down on a snap cap keeps the spring relaxed without leaving a cocked gun in the safe.
The polymer cushion is a consumable. When the face is deeply cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
Want a full magazine of them? The same caliber is stocked in a blue aluminum ten pack as A-Zoom 40 S&W blue snap caps, and the line covers 9mm Luger too. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For duty pistol owners and anyone drilling recoil control with a forty, A-Zoom 40 S&W Snap Caps are the practical buy. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA15114 in the five pack.
