Description
The Arsenal SAM7SF-56 is the current-generation milled-receiver Bulgarian AK, and the thing that sets it apart from every SAM7SF that came before is the stock. Arsenal replaced the old tubular side folder with a hard-anodized aluminum unit machined from a single billet, with a cheek weld groove cut into the body and four non-rotating QD points for sling attachment. Everything behind it is the SAM7 formula that has held up for two decades: a hot-die hammer-forged and CNC-milled receiver, a chrome-lined hammer-forged barrel, and the enhanced fire control group.
The Aluminum Side-Folding Stock
The buttstock body on the Arsenal SAM7SF-56 is CNC machined from one piece of aluminum and hard anodized, and the attachment hardware is heat-treated carbon steel. Arsenal machines the parts in house down to the rivets, which are turned on a CNC machine so they sit flush. The result is a folding stock with the kind of tight tolerances that AK shooters have historically had to buy aftermarket to get, and it is both lighter and stronger than the tubular stock it replaces.
The cheek weld groove matters more than it sounds. A traditional AK folding stock gives the shooter a tube to press a cheekbone against; this one gives a machined surface shaped for the job, which makes a consistent head position far easier to find under an optic. The four QD points mean a sling can be run on either side without a single adapter.

A note on the photography: some of Arsenal’s factory images show this rifle with a 30-round M-47W magazine and a cleaning rod fitted. Neither is included — the rifle ships with a single 10-round magazine, which keeps it transferable in states that cap capacity. Standard AK-pattern magazines fit where local law allows, and 922(r) compliance depends on the count of imported parts fitted, so check before swapping furniture or magazines for foreign-made components.
Why it is worth considering
- CNC-machined aluminum folding stock with a cheek weld groove, not a bare tube
- Four non-rotating QD sling points, usable from either side
- Hot-die hammer-forged and CNC-milled receiver rather than stamped sheet steel
- Chrome-lined hammer-forged barrel with a 24×1.5mm threaded muzzle
- Enhanced fire control group that removes the classic AK trigger slap
- Integrated side rail that holds an optic zero through folding and disassembly
Who it suits
The Arsenal SAM7SF-56 suits the shooter who wants a milled AK that works properly with modern accessories. If you have ever tried to mount a sling and an optic on a Kalashnikov and ended up with a pile of adapters, this is the rifle that was designed with that problem in mind. It is also the SAM7SF to choose over the older tubular-stock versions if head position under glass matters to you.

Ammunition and Optics for the Arsenal SAM7SF-56
7.62×39 is still among the cheapest centerfire rifle cartridges to shoot in volume, and the chrome-lined bore takes steel-case ammunition in stride. Brass-case loads in the 123-grain range give the best accuracy, while bulk steel-case practice ammunition is entirely workable for range days. Run a brush through the bore after corrosive surplus and the barrel will last the life of the rifle. Full model specifications and the current colour lineup are published by the manufacturer at Arsenal Inc.
This configuration is also offered in plum and OD green if black is not what you are after. Compare it against the tubular-stock SAM7SF-84E, the fixed-stock Arsenal SAM7R and the cased SAM7SF-86, browse our full range of Arsenal Inc. rifles, or look through the wider firearms catalog.
