Description
The Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot takes the largest window in the 407 family, drops a single 6 MOA dot into it, and drives that dot with what Holosun calls Gold Super LED Technology. One aiming point, 1.1 inches of glass, and a reticle color almost nobody else offers. Part HS407COMP-GD-6.

Gold Super LED, And Why Holosun Named It
Holosun gives the emitter in the Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot its own name, which they do not do lightly. Gold sits at 590nm, in the amber band, and the engineering goal is a reticle that stays crisp and saturated at low power draw rather than one that simply looks different.
What that gets you on the range is separation. Steel is usually painted white or left to rust, and cardboard is brown. Red washes into the rust and the brown; green washes into the grass behind it. The Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot sits between both, which is why it stays visible on a stage where the light and the backdrop change every three steps.
Dot Size Against Target Size
The 6 MOA dot on the Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot covers six inches at a hundred yards, three at fifty, one and a half at twenty five. Hold that against the targets a competition pistol actually engages: an eight inch plate at fifteen yards is more than five times the dot.
So the precision argument against a big dot mostly evaporates at pistol distance, while the speed argument gets stronger every yard closer you come. The dot on the Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot is easier to find on the draw, easier to track through recoil, and far more forgiving of an imperfect presentation. That is three advantages against one theoretical disadvantage you will rarely be able to measure.
No Circle, And That Is The Point
The 507 Comp sitting next to the Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot carries a four element reticle with 8, 20 and 32 MOA circles. It is a superb tool if you want ranging references. It is also more in the window than some shooters want.
The Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot is the deliberate opposite: nothing in the glass but the dot. On a transition between two targets there is no ring arriving before the dot and nothing for the eye to resolve. For a shooter whose eyes go straight to the target and expect the dot to appear there, a clean window is faster than a clever one.
Power, And One Honest Caveat
The CR1632 in the Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot is rated at 50,000 hours at setting six with up to 100,000 hours available at lower brightness, loaded from a side tray so a battery change never disturbs the mounting screws or the zero. Shake Awake sleeps the sight when the gun is still, memory mode restores your last brightness, and lockout freezes the buttons.
The caveat worth knowing before you order: adjustment travel on the Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot is 30 MOA in each direction, not the 50 MOA some other Holosun models carry. On a slide cut that is close to true this is plenty. On a plate stack that puts you near the edge of adjustment, it is less room to work with than you may be used to, so if you are mounting through an adapter on a pistol that has already given you trouble, mention it to us before you buy.
RMR Footprint, IP67, 5000G
The Holosun HS407COMP Gold Dot uses the RMR footprint, so it fits the widest range of slides and plates on the market. The housing is 7075 T6 aluminum, anodized, rated IP67 against dust and immersion and tested to 5000G of vibration, measuring 1.8 by 1.3 by 1.3 inches at 1.7 ounces.
Those last two numbers are the ones that matter on a pistol. A slide cycling at speed punishes an optic in a way no rifle does, and 5000G is the figure that says this housing was built expecting it.
