Description
The Ruger RXM Flat Dark Earth is the plain, unthreaded version of the pistol Ruger built with Magpul, and it is the one most people should buy. Everything clever about the platform is still here; what is missing is a threaded muzzle that most owners will never use.
The clever part is that the serialized component is not the frame. A removable fire control insert lifts out of the grip module as an assembly, which turns the grip into an ordinary retail part you can change for size, texture or color rather than a permanent commitment that required a transfer.
Ruger 19426 is the Flat Dark Earth configuration with a 4 inch barrel, fifteen rounds, a tritium front sight standing at co-witness height and two Magpul PMAG 15 GL9 magazines in the box.
What the removable fire control insert changes
- The serialized part is a stainless steel insert, not the polymer around it.
- The Magpul Enhanced Handgun Grip it sits in is an ordinary accessory purchase, so resizing the gun is a shopping decision rather than a paperwork one.
- Most major components were designed for Gen 3 compatibility, which is why the holster and parts supply was enormous from launch.
- Magazines are Glock pattern; two PMAG 15 GL9 are included and the rest of the world already stocks the others.
- One insert can live in a full-size grip for the range and a compact one for carry.

Sights, optics and the grip module
- Tritium co-witness front sight, so the irons still show in the bottom of an optic window.
- Steel drift-adjustable rear sight.
- Optic footprints cover RMR, DeltaPoint Pro and RMSc, which takes in most of what people actually mount.
- Three-quarter-scale TSP texture on the Magpul grip, aggressive enough to hold and gentle enough to carry against skin.
- Low-profile flared magwell, undercut trigger guard, beavertail and a magazine release scallop.
- Universal accessory rail under the dust cover.

Two things our own listing had wrong

This page used to be titled “4 Inch Adjustable Barrel”. The barrel is not adjustable; nothing on a pistol barrel is. The word belongs to the rear sight, which is steel and drift adjustable, and it arrived here through an abbreviated distributor field. Corrected.
The second one is a live disagreement rather than a typo. Sports South list this SKU with a 4.50 inch barrel. Ruger own published spec sheet for model 19426 says 4 inches. The 4.50 inch figure belongs to the threaded RXM, model 19412, and has been copied across. We have gone with the manufacturer. If you are sizing a holster, measure against 7.15 inches overall.
One more thing to check before ordering: Ruger list this model as not available in California and not available in Massachusetts.
Threaded or not
The only functional difference between this pistol and the threaded RXM is the muzzle. If you own a suppressor or intend to buy one, the threaded version is the one to get and the extra half inch of barrel comes with it. If you do not, the threads are a thread protector you have to keep track of and a slightly longer holster.
Suppressors, for the avoidance of doubt, are National Firearms Act items requiring an approved ATF Form 4 and a tax stamp. MAG5 Firearms does not stock them.
What a co-witness front sight is for
Ruger fitted a tritium front sight at co-witness height rather than a standard-height one, and it is a deliberate choice that costs them money. Mount a red dot on the RMR, DeltaPoint Pro or RMSc footprint and the iron sights still appear in the lower part of the window. A dead battery, a fogged lens or a cracked emitter becomes an inconvenience rather than a stoppage.
It also means a Ruger RXM Flat Dark Earth is usable straight out of the box with no optic at all, which a lot of optic-ready pistols are not — plenty ship with plastic sights that exist only to be replaced.
Making it fit
The grip module is the reason to buy this platform rather than a conventional polymer pistol, and most owners never exercise it. A spare module in a different size costs a fraction of a second gun and changes the trigger reach, the grip circumference and the length of the butt. A Ruger RXM Flat Dark Earth set up with a compact module for carry and a full-size one for the range is two guns that share one serial number and one holster pattern.
Fit it properly before you judge the trigger. Grip circumference decides where the finger lands on the trigger face, and a finger that wraps too far pushes the muzzle sideways on every press.
Why the Ruger RXM Flat Dark Earth earns its place
- A tritium front sight and a factory optic cut at a price where rivals charge for both separately.
- Glock-pattern magazines and Gen 3 parts compatibility solved the accessory question before the gun shipped.
- The grip is a serviceable part rather than a permanent commitment.
- 23.2 oz and 7.15 in. overall is a genuinely carryable full-capacity nine.
- Flat Dark Earth hides holster wear far better than black does.
The threaded RXM in Stealth Gray is the same pistol with a 4.50 in. threaded barrel, and the threaded black RXM with 17+1 adds capacity as well. For plain black without threads, the 4 in. RXM in black is this gun in the other finish, and the OD green model covers the third color.
The upgrade worth making is a spare grip: the full-size Magpul EHG module in matching Flat Dark Earth or the compact module in the same color. Spare magazines are Magpul PMAG 15 GL9, the same ones in the box.
