Description

The Ruger RXM 9mm Stealth Gray is the most quietly radical handgun Ruger has shipped in years, and almost nobody notices because it looks ordinary. The serialized part is not the frame. It is a removable fire control insert that lifts out of the grip module, which means the grip is a consumable component you can change like a stock or a set of scales.

That single decision is what the whole pistol is built around. Ruger developed it with Magpul, who supply the grip module itself, and between them they produced a gun that takes Glock-pattern magazines, fits a very large number of off-the-shelf holsters, and lets an owner change the size and texture of the thing they actually hold without visiting a gunsmith or filling in a form.

This particular Ruger RXM 19412 is the threaded, optic-ready configuration in Stealth Gray, with a tritium front sight standing at co-witness height and two Magpul PMAG 15 GL9 magazines in the box.

A serialized part you can move between grips

  • The fire control insert is stainless steel, serialized, and lifts out of the grip module as an assembly.
  • The Magpul Enhanced Handgun Grip around it is an ordinary retail part, so changing frame size, color or texture is a purchase rather than a transfer.
  • Most major components were designed for Gen 3 compatibility, which is why the holster and parts supply was already enormous on day one.
  • Magazines are Glock pattern. Two PMAG 15 GL9 come in the box and the rest of the world already stocks the others.
  • A removable fire control insert also means the gun can shrink or grow with its owner rather than being sold on and replaced.

What the Magpul grip module brings

  • Three-quarter-scale TSP texture, which grips the hand without sanding a shirt to pieces on a summer carry day.
  • Textured indexing pads so the trigger finger and support thumb land in the same place every time.
  • A low-profile flared magazine well that speeds reloads without adding a bulge to the printing profile.
  • An undercut trigger guard and a beavertail that let the hand sit high and keep the muzzle down.
  • A scallop at the magazine release so the button is reachable without breaking grip.
  • A universal accessory rail for lights and lasers.

The threads, and what you can legally put on them

The muzzle is cut 1/2×28, the standard pitch for 9mm. A compensator or a thread protector is an ordinary purchase. A suppressor is not: it is a National Firearms Act item that needs an approved ATF Form 4, a tax stamp and a wait measured in months, and MAG5 Firearms does not stock them. Nothing on this page is an offer to sell one.

The tritium front sight sits at co-witness height on purpose. Mount a red dot on the RMR, DeltaPoint Pro or RMSc footprint and the iron sights still appear in the bottom of the window, so a dead battery or a fogged lens is an inconvenience rather than a stoppage. That is a deliberate choice by Ruger and it is worth more than most buyers realize until the day it matters.

One number the listings disagree on

You will see this gun advertised with a 4 in. barrel and with a 4.50 in. barrel, sometimes by the same supplier on the same page. Ruger own published spec sheet for model 19412 says 4.50 in., and Sports South records 4.50 in. as well. The 4 in. figure belongs to the unthreaded RXM and has been copied across. We have gone with the manufacturer.

One more thing to check before you order: Ruger list this model as not available in California and not available in Massachusetts. Magazine capacity and feature rules vary elsewhere too, so confirm your own before buying spares.

Why the Ruger RXM 9mm Stealth Gray earns its place

  • A threaded barrel optic ready pistol with tritium sights fitted is usually three separate purchases; here it is one.
  • The grip is a serviceable part, not a permanent commitment, so the gun can be fitted rather than tolerated.
  • Glock-pattern magazines and Gen 3 parts compatibility mean the accessory question was solved before the gun existed.
  • Stealth Gray is a finish that hides handling marks far better than black, which matters on a pistol that lives in a holster.
  • Ruger build it in the United States and stand behind it, and the price bracket is nowhere near what this specification usually costs.

If you would rather have black and two more rounds, the threaded RXM in black with 17+1 is the same pistol in the other finish. Want no threads and a shorter package? The 4 in. RXM in black is the plain carry version, and the OD green 4 in. model covers the third color choice.

The upgrade path is the interesting part. A spare Magpul EHG grip module in matching gray lets you keep one fire control insert and two entirely different guns, and the compact module in flat dark earth turns this into a smaller carry pistol in about a minute. Spare magazines are Magpul PMAG 15 GL9, the same ones that came in the box.

For ammunition, CCI Blazer Brass 115gr is the cheap way to put rounds through it and Federal 147gr HST is the heavier carry load, which suits a 4.50 in. barrel well. Browse the rest of our handguns category, or read the factory sheet at Ruger. Every transfer goes through a licensed dealer.
