Description

A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps are a two pack of machined aluminium training rounds cut to 25-06 dimensions, part number 12256. They are what you use to dry fire a rifle without beating the firing pin, to check that a magazine feeds, and to prove a chamber is clear before the rifle goes in a case.

A Cushioned Primer Face Is the Whole Point

A dummy round with a solid base does nothing useful when the pin falls. A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps carry a dead soft polymer insert where the primer would sit, and that insert takes the strike and springs back. A-Zoom rates the design for thousands of cycles before the face is dished enough to retire.

Whether your rifle needs what A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps provide depends on the rifle. Many modern centrefire bolt actions are perfectly happy being dry fired on an empty chamber, and plenty of manufacturers say so in the manual. Older actions, rifles with aftermarket triggers, and anything with a long firing pin fall are the ones where a cushioned cap earns its money. The manual is the authority.

Either way there is a second benefit that applies to every rifle: with a cap in the chamber the bolt closes on something, so the extractor and ejector are doing their real job. Practising bolt manipulation on an empty chamber teaches a slightly different feel than working over a cartridge.

A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps Specifications

Machined in the United States by A-Zoom, part of Lyman Products. The bodies are turned from solid aluminium rather than moulded plastic, so they hold their dimensions through repeated chambering instead of swelling at the shoulder the way cheap polymer caps do.

Two A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps is the right count for a bolt gun. A 25-06 is a hunting rifle, not a magazine dump cartridge, and two caps let you run a load, fire, cycle, eject sequence and keep a spare when the first one wears. If you want to fill a magazine for feeding tests, buy two packs.

The 25-06 is a long bottleneck case on the 30-06 head, so the cap is physically large and easy to spot. That is helpful, because the single biggest risk with any training round is confusing one with the real thing.

Dry Fire Practice That Actually Helps a Hunting Rifle

Most missed shots on game are trigger control, and trigger control is the one thing you can practise for free in a living room. Ten minutes with A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps a few evenings a week, watching the crosshair while the striker falls, will do more for your first-round hit than another box of ammunition down the range. Watch for the reticle jumping at the break, because that is the flinch you cannot see at the bench.

Practise the cycle with A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps, not just the trigger. Working the bolt without coming off the stock, finding the trigger again, and settling back into the same cheek weld is a sequence worth grooving before a hunt.

Retire one of your A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps when the face stops springing back. The polymer is a wear item, and a flattened face is no longer protecting anything. This is also why a spare matters even in a two pack.

Keep them out of the ammunition. Two anodised caps at the bottom of a pack are easy to grab by mistake. Give them a tin, and count them in and out. If you also shoot a 270 or a 30-06, our 270 Winchester snap caps and 30-06 Springfield snap caps are the matching items, and keeping each calibre in its own container is how you avoid chambering the wrong thing.

If you own a 25-06 you own a flat shooting, long legged hunting rifle that deserves practice between seasons. A-Zoom 25-06 Remington Snap Caps are a few dollars that make that practice safe and easy to do at home. Ships from our licensed inventory in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

One more use that gets overlooked: travel and storage. A snap cap in the chamber of an unloaded rifle keeps the striker down on something soft rather than leaving a spring compressed or the pin resting on an empty bolt face, and it physically blocks the chamber while the rifle is in a safe or a case. It is not a substitute for a bright chamber flag at a range that requires one, since nobody across the firing line can see an aluminium cap, but for home storage it is a sensible habit.

If you are loading for the 25-06, these also make a useful length and shoulder reference on the bench when you are setting up a die, though a proper case gauge is still the right tool for headspace.
