Description

A-Zoom 30-06 Springfield Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds cut to 30-06 dimensions, two to a pack. Two is the right count for trigger work, chamber checks and letting a striker down safely, which is most of what a snap cap gets used for.
How A-Zoom 30-06 Springfield Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to full cartridge dimensions and hard anodized red. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body. Nothing can shear off and leave a case body stuck in the chamber of a rifle you would rather not be poking at with a cleaning rod.
The primer end holds a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. It slows the firing pin the way a real primer does rather than letting it stop hard, which matters on the many pre-war and mid-century 30-06 rifles still in the field.
The red anodizing makes A-Zoom 30-06 Springfield Snap Caps obviously inert, which is worth having when live ammunition for a cartridge this common is usually somewhere on the same bench.
Where Two Rounds Earn Their Keep
Trigger and safety checks are the primary use. Confirming sear engagement after an adjustment, verifying the safety blocks the sear and testing that the rifle does not fire when the bolt is closed hard all want an inert round in the chamber rather than an empty one.
Chamber and extractor confirmation is the other. Making sure a round seats fully and that the extractor grabs the rim is a sensible bench check after any barrel or bolt work, and A-Zoom 30-06 Springfield Snap Caps do it without ammunition.
Handloaders get a third use. Comparing a machined dummy against your own loaded rounds is a quick check on overall length and magazine fit, and cycling one through the action shows whether a long-seated bullet is going to hang up before you build a batch.

Field Notes
Older rifles are where this matters most. Plenty of 30-06 actions use firing pins that are no longer easy to source, so dry firing on a snap cap rather than an empty chamber is straightforward preservation.
M1 Garand owners get a specific benefit. Confirming that the bolt closes fully and the extractor holds a chambered round is worth doing with an inert round before feeding an en bloc clip of live ammunition into a rifle that is famous for catching thumbs.
The polymer cushion is a wear item. When the face is visibly cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
Want enough to fill a magazine? The same caliber is stocked as A-Zoom 30-06 Snap Caps in a blue aluminum five pack, and the line covers 270 Winchester as well. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For hunters and collectors who just need a pair, A-Zoom 30-06 Springfield Snap Caps are the right buy. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA12227 in the two pack.
