Description

The DPMS Panther Arms 5.56 AR Pistol is a deliberately old school build: a 10.5 inch black phosphate barrel, an M4 handguard with heat shields, a fixed front sight base and an A2 carry handle on top, with an adjustable CAR brace at the back.
Iron Sights, Straight Out of the Box
Almost every AR sold today ships as a flat top with no sights at all, which means budgeting for an optic before you can shoot it. This one arrives ready: a fixed front sight base up front and an A2 carry handle rear that adjusts for both windage and elevation.
The carry handle is removable, so the rifle is not locked into irons forever. Take it off and the receiver underneath is a standard Picatinny flat top ready for a red dot or a scope whenever you want one.
DPMS Panther Arms 5.56 AR Pistol Barrel
The barrel is 10.5 inches with a black phosphate finish and a threaded muzzle. Phosphate is the traditional military barrel finish: not glamorous, but corrosion resistant, cheap to reapply and completely non-reflective.
Ten and a half inches is the classic short AR length. You lose meaningful velocity compared with a 16 inch barrel, but you gain a package short enough to work in a vehicle or a hallway, which is the entire point of a braced pistol.
Handguard, Brace and Grip
The handguard is a standard M4 two piece unit with aluminum heat shields inside. It is not a free float rail, but it is light, it is comfortable, and replacement halves cost almost nothing if you damage one.
The brace is an adjustable CAR pattern polymer unit on a standard receiver extension, so length adjusts the same way a carbine stock does. The grip is a black A2, the shape every AR shooter learned on.

Ammunition and Practical Range
Chambered for 5.56 NATO, the pistol also fires .223 Remington safely. A 10.5 inch barrel leaves 55 grain ball noticeably slower than a rifle does, which shortens the distance at which the round performs well, so heavier 62 to 77 grain loads are worth considering for anything serious. With irons, hits at 100 yards are comfortable.
Why Buyers Choose the DPMS Panther Arms 5.56 AR Pistol
The DPMS Panther Arms 5.56 AR Pistol is one of the few short ARs that arrives usable without buying anything else. Sights are on it, the brace adjusts, and the price reflects a conventional handguard and phosphate barrel rather than premium parts you may not need.
Who Should Buy It
Buyers who want a compact 5.56 without an optic budget on top, shooters who genuinely prefer irons, and anyone who wants a truck or home defense gun that will not be missed if it gets knocked about.
Be clear about the trade-offs. The handguard is not free float, the trigger is a standard mil-spec unit, and a fixed front sight base sits in the sight picture of any optic you add later. Braced pistols are also regulated differently in some states.
