Description
The Barrett MRAD SMR 308 Grey is the Tungsten Grey Cerakote version of Barrett Single Mission Rifle, built around a 17 inch free floated barrel in 308 Winchester with a fixed stock. Grey is the middle option between the black and the Flat Dark Earth guns and it is the finish most competition shooters seem to pick, probably because it photographs and ages well without disappearing into either extreme. The SMR is the honest version of the MRAD.
Barrett fixed the caliber, free floated the barrel and deleted the folding hinge, and the rifle came back lighter, slimmer, cheaper and carrying a 0.75 MOA accuracy guarantee. If you already know what you want to shoot, that is a straightforward win.
What You Get With the Barrett MRAD SMR 308 Grey
The 17 inch barrel is free floated and fixed. No user changeable barrel system, which is the defining SMR limitation and worth understanding before you buy: one receiver, one chambering, for the life of the rifle.
Barrett lists the 308 SMR between 10.6 and 12.0 pounds and between 39.5 and 46.5 inches depending on barrel length. This version sits at the short, light end, which is precisely what makes it workable from a vehicle, a blind or a barricade rather than only from a bench.
The stock is fixed but the cheek rest adjusts vertically, and the grip is a Magpul MOE that swaps for any AR pattern grip in about two minutes. Those two adjustments cover most of what a shooter needs to fit a rifle to themselves.
Brake, Rail and Honest Trade Offs
A two port muzzle brake is fitted. In 308 Winchester recoil was never the problem, so the brake exists mainly to keep the reticle settled enough to spot your own hits. The cost is that it is appreciably louder for anyone shooting beside you, which matters on a crowded line.
The top rail runs 21.75 inches with 10 MOA of built in cant. That is a sensible amount for the distances 308 is genuinely used at, and the length means you can put almost any scope where your head naturally lands.
Seventeen inches costs roughly 100 to 150 feet per second against a 24 inch barrel. Inside 800 yards that is academic. Past it a longer barrel is the better tool, and because this barrel is fixed, that is a decision made at purchase rather than later.

Who it suits
This suits the shooter who has settled on 308 Winchester and wants a compact, accurate rifle without paying for modularity they will not use. It is a good match and practice rifle and a sensible truck gun. It is the wrong choice if you expect to change calibers later.

Ammunition and Transfer Notes for the Barrett MRAD SMR 308 Grey
308 Winchester is the easiest serious rifle cartridge in the country to feed. Match, hunting and bulk practice ammunition sit on shelves everywhere, brass and dies are inexpensive, and load data is thoroughly documented. Cartridge and chamber standards are published by SAAMI, so anything marked 308 Winchester is safe in this barrel.
On a rifle sold with a 0.75 MOA guarantee, ammunition is where most of the variation will come from. Factory match loads from the major makers will generally hold that standard; bulk practice ammunition will not, and it is fairer to the rifle to keep those expectations separate. Heavier 175 grain match bullets hold velocity downrange better than 168s out of a short barrel.
The muzzle is threaded beneath the brake. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items, so a suppressor would be a separate purchase requiring ATF approval, a tax stamp and its own transfer, and it is not legal in every state. The same rifle is listed in black and Flat Dark Earth, and more of our stock is on the MAG5 Firearms shop page. This rifle ships to a licensed dealer, where you will complete a 4473 and a NICS check.
