Description
The Barnes VOR-TX 7mm Rem Mag 160gr TSX BT is the heaviest of the three standard line copper loads for the 7mm Remington Magnum, and the one to pick when penetration on heavy game matters most. It leaves the muzzle at roughly 2950 fps carrying about 3093 ft-lbs of energy, behind a 0.443 ballistic coefficient. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX 7mm Rem Mag 160gr TSX BT Overview
Unlike the 140 and 150 grain loads in this cartridge, this projectile is the plain Triple Shock X with no polymer tip. The nose is an open hollow cavity, machined from a solid copper billet with no lead core and no jacket to separate.
On impact the nose peels back into four sharp copper petals at roughly double the original diameter and stays attached to the shank, with weight retention close to 100 percent. Combined with 160 grains of sectional density, that is what produces the long straight wound channels heavy game requires.
160 Grain TSX Boat Tail Performance
A point worth knowing across the three standard weights. This 160 grain carries a 0.443 ballistic coefficient, which is marginally lower than the 150 grain tipped load at 0.450, because the polymer tip on the lighter bullet buys back more than the weight difference costs. What this load offers is mass and sectional density rather than a flatter curve.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the projectile. Those grooves reduce bore contact, lowering pressure and cutting copper fouling, which helps a long solid bullet group well out of a factory barrel.
Why Hunters Choose 7mm Remington Magnum Moose Ammo
The 7mm Remington Magnum has been the Western default for sixty years, and it stretches comfortably from antelope to moose. It fits a standard length magnum action, recoils less than a 300 magnum, and is stocked everywhere.
Where this 7mm Remington Magnum moose ammo fits is at the heavy end of what the cartridge is asked to do. On moose, big bull elk or a bear at close range, sectional density and a bullet that holds every grain of its weight matter more than the last fifty feet per second or a marginally flatter curve.
For deer and antelope the lighter 140 and 150 grain loads shoot flatter and are plenty of bullet. Pick this one when the animal is large and the shot may be angled.

Range Notes For This All Copper Non Tipped Bullet
An all copper non tipped bullet prints to a different point of impact than the lead core ammunition your rifle was probably sighted in with, and also differently from the tipped loads in the same line. Zero with this exact ammunition.
Twist rate is not a concern. Most 7mm Remington Magnum barrels run 1 in 9 or 1 in 9.5, and both stabilize a 160 grain copper bullet without difficulty.
At 2950 fps the Barnes VOR-TX 7mm Rem Mag 160gr TSX stays above reliable expansion speed past 450 yards in most barrels. Without a polymer tip the nose cavity can collect debris in a pocket or a pack, so keep the rounds in the box until you load.
Lead Free Deep Penetration Ammunition Availability
