Description

A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps are two machined aluminium training rounds, anodised bright orange, with a rubber O-ring around the body. Part number 17101. They are the version A-Zoom built specifically for striker fired pistols, which is a more useful distinction than the packaging suggests.

What StrikerCaps Actually Do for a Striker Pistol

Start with something most listings gloss over. Almost every modern striker fired pistol is rated for dry firing on an empty chamber, and the manufacturers say so in their manuals. If you own a Glock, an M and P, a Sig P365 or similar, you do not strictly need a snap cap to protect the firing pin. So what are you buying?

Three things, and they are all worth having. First, a dummy round lets you practise loading, unloading, and clearing malfunctions with something in the gun, which is the part of gun handling most people never practise. Second, the bright orange body is instantly identifiable as inert at arm length, in a bag or on a bench, which plain brass coloured dummies are not. Third, the O-ring gives A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps a snug fit so they chamber and extract like a real round rather than rattling.

The cushioned face still matters in some guns. Older 380 pocket pistols and hammer fired designs are not all rated for dry fire, and in those a cap that absorbs the strike is doing real work.

A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps Specifications

A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps are made by A-Zoom, part of Lyman Products, and machined in the United States from solid aluminium rather than moulded in plastic. Plastic dummies swell and split with repeated chambering; aluminium holds its dimensions.

Two to a pack is the standard count for A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps. For a 380 that is usually enough, since the drills you want are load, chamber check, clear and unload rather than filling a magazine. If you want to run feeding checks through a full magazine, buy two packs.

Orange on A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps is the point, not decoration. The colour exists so that nobody has to look twice to know the round is inert, which is the entire safety argument for using dummies at home in the first place.

Getting Real Value Out of Dry Practice

Remember that a snap cap does not reset a striker. On a Glock or similar, the striker is only re-cocked by cycling the slide, so every dry fire needs a rack. That is not a fault in A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps, it is how the gun works, and it is worth knowing before you expect repeated trigger presses without touching the slide.

Practise the administrative handling with A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps, not just the trigger. Loading, chamber checking, unloading and clearing a stoppage are where mistakes actually happen, and they are the drills nobody runs because doing them with live ammunition in a living room is a bad idea. This is what dummy rounds are for.

Clear the room properly first. Live ammunition goes in another room, not another pocket, and you confirm the gun is empty before the dummies come out. The orange bodies help enormously, and they are not a substitute for the habit.

Retire them when they look tired. Aluminium marks where a firing pin lands and where an extractor grips, and a dummy that no longer looks obviously like a dummy is not doing its main job any more.

If you shoot other calibres, the same design runs across the line. Our A-Zoom 45 ACP StrikerCaps and A-Zoom 9mm Luger snap caps cover the two most common pistol chamberings, and keeping each calibre in its own tin avoids the obvious mix-up.

A-Zoom 380 ACP StrikerCaps are a few dollars that make safe practice possible at home with a pocket pistol, and the orange finish is worth the small premium over plain dummies. Buy them for the handling drills as much as the trigger work. Ships from our licensed inventory in Collegeville, Pennsylvania.

A practical note on pocket pistols specifically. The 380 guns most people own are small, light and carried in places where they collect lint and pocket debris, and the drills that matter most with them are chamber checks and unloading rather than marksmanship. Running those drills with an inert round in the chamber is the safest way to build the habit, and it costs nothing once you own the caps.

Keep them separated from live ammunition and count them in and out of every session. Store them in their own tin or pouch rather than loose in a range bag.

If you are stocking up on live 380 at the same time, an ammo box sized for 380 and 9mm keeps the two apart on the bench.
