The Problem Enclosed Sights Were Built To Solve

An open reflex sight, unlike the Holosun EPS Carry Red MRS, fires its emitter upward from an exposed shelf at a lens. It works beautifully right up until something lands on that emitter, and a concealed carry gun spends its entire life collecting exactly the things that do.

Holster lint. Sweat. Sunscreen off your hands in summer. Gun oil. Rain running down inside a jacket. Any of those on the emitter face dims or kills the reticle, and you will not find out until the moment you need it. The Holosun EPS Carry Red MRS seals the emitter inside the housing with glass at both ends, so there is nothing for debris to land on and nothing to wipe before you can trust the dot.

Enclosed Usually Means Heavy. This Does Not

The catch with sealing an emitter the way the Holosun EPS Carry Red MRS does is that it takes more housing to do it, which is why enclosed sights have historically been full size and why carry guns kept getting open ones.

The Holosun EPS Carry Red MRS weighs 1.23 ounces on a body measuring 1.63 by 1.07 by 0.95 inches. That is lighter than plenty of open sights and small enough for a micro compact slide, which matters on a gun that already has little mass to absorb recoil and a short slide to do it with. Weight added high above the bore changes how a small pistol tracks between shots, and this adds very little.

A Ring In A Small Window

The Holosun EPS Carry Red MRS window is 0.77 by 0.58 inches and the received wisdom says a 32 MOA circle needs more room than that. The received wisdom has it backwards.

The hardest part of running a small optic is finding the dot, because a small window punishes any presentation that is not perfect. Shake Awake sleeps the Holosun EPS Carry Red MRS when the pistol is still and wakes it on movement, so the runtime figure describes far more calendar time than continuous use would. Eight daylight brightness settings and four night vision settings, with memory to bring back your last choice and lockout to stop a holster changing it. One Number To Check First

Adjustments on the Holosun EPS Carry Red MRS move 1.5 MOA per click across 30 MOA of travel in each direction, which is coarser and shorter than the full size 407 and 507 optics with their 1 MOA clicks and 50 MOA of range. On a true slide cut this is ample and you will never see the limit. Through a stacked adapter on a pistol that already points slightly off it is less headroom than you may expect, so if a previous optic fought you on that gun, say so before you order.
