Description
The Zastava ZPAP M70 7.62×39 Black Gold is a Serbian built AK on a 1.5mm bulged trunnion receiver, finished with a black Cerakote receiver, gold Cerakote barrel, trigger and magazine, and classic Serbian Red wood furniture. It is a working rifle dressed for the safe rather than a wall hanger.
Zastava ZPAP M70 7.62×39 Black Gold Barrel and Sights
The barrel is 16.3 inches, cold hammer forged and chrome lined. Those two processes together are why a Zastava barrel outlasts almost anything else in the AK world. Hammer forging work hardens the bore and chrome lining resists the corrosion that surplus and steel case ammunition can encourage.
Sights are the traditional adjustable AK front post and rear tangent leaf, both regulated at the factory. They work in the dark, they do not need batteries, and they survive being dropped, which is the whole argument for iron sights on a rifle like this.
Receiver, Trunnion and Furniture
The receiver is 1.5mm thick with a bulged front trunnion, the heavier specification that Zastava carries over from the M70 military rifle. Most imported AKs use a 1mm receiver, and the extra material here is why this pattern has a reputation for handling hard use and hot barrels without stretching.
The bolt is a double stack design and the whole rifle runs the long stroke gas piston system that made the pattern famous. Furniture is Serbian Red wood, the traditional colour, and the gold Cerakote on the barrel, gas tube, trigger and magazine is the reason this particular version exists.

Why Zastava AKs Have the Reputation They Do
Zastava is one of very few factories still building AK pattern rifles on original military tooling rather than reverse engineering them. The M70 pattern the ZPAP is based on was the Yugoslav service rifle, and the heavy trunnion, the thicker receiver and the chrome lined barrel are all military specifications rather than commercial shortcuts.
That heritage shows up in the details a shooter notices after a few hundred rounds. Headspace stays where it should, the sights hold zero, and the rifle does not develop the rattles that thinner receivers eventually do.
Why Buyers Choose the Zastava ZPAP M70 7.62×39 Black Gold
Most buyers looking at this rifle are choosing between it and a generic imported AK at a similar price. The 1.5mm receiver, the bulged trunnion and the chrome lined hammer forged barrel are the answer, and the gold and red finish is a bonus rather than the reason.
It is also a rifle that holds value. Serbian production has been interrupted before, and clean examples of the better specified models have historically done well.
Who Should Buy It
The Zastava ZPAP M70 7.62×39 Black Gold suits collectors who want a Serbian M70 pattern rifle in a finish that stands out, shooters who want an AK built to military specification rather than an import minimum, and anyone who wants a 7.62×39 that will still be running long after the ammunition runs out. It is a rifle for shooting as well as for showing.
